NotesIt was Christmas Day, 2006; or, as I like to refer to it as, the greatest Christmas ever. I opened one great gift after another, my friends! The great presents... they just didn't stop! One highlight was a Tascam recording mixer thingy... to put it legitimately. At first, I wasn't too motivated to use it, for its amazingly complicated array of switches, knobs, and levers simply astounded me (like, seriously, it's really complex!). So let's put that aside for a moment. The single greatest Christmas gift I have ever received is one that I got on the magical Christmas of 2006; my eyes bulged out of my head as I beheld a Nintendo Wii console. And it wasn't only that; with it we got an extra controller and nunchuk, Call of Duty 3, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and the strategy guide for it. I began to hyperventilate. It was so unbelievably overwhelming. I can't begin to tell you how many countless hours I stayed up playing Twilight Princess, my friends. Day and night ran together; I rarely stopped for food, drink, sleep, or... er... other urgent bodily functions. All I was interested in was completing the most epic and awesome video game I have ever laid hands or eyes upon. It truly stunned me. The very last level is Hyrule Castle; you have to traverse its well-guarded spiral stairwells and dodge many various minions to reach Gandondorf. And the moment you walk into the castle, an eerily slow version of the A Link to the Past Hyrule Castle song begins to play, filled with reverb, echo, and pure menace. After completing a 4-stage (four stage!) boss battle and jumping around like an idiot for half an hour's time, I ran up to my room to begin recording the awesome Zelda 3 Hyrule Castle theme. The rest is history, my friends. From there, I began learning and recording other various Zelda pieces that I'm very fond of, and eventually had enough material to compile this 7-song EP. I wanted to capture the intensity and sheer brilliance of each Zelda theme, yet not overproduce it and flood it with noise. What I was left with was a very balanced, almost garage-styled sound. It may not exactly be Hollywood recording studio caliber, but damn it, I'm pretty proud of it. You can check 5 of the tracks out on my Myspace page. Or, if you know me personally, ask for a copy sometime. I'd be happy to burn it for ya. :-)
