Yesterday, as I'm sure many of you are aware, a magnitude 8.9 earthquake shook Japan. The northwest coast of Honshu was the area hardest hit, with more minor damage in Tokyo. My concerns and condolences go out to everyone affected by this disaster.
The Miyagi prefecture suffered the most damage, so I am wondering if anyone knows of any artists who are living in that area. It is currently impossible to search artists by location on this database, as far as I know.

Best I could come up with: http://www.google.co.uk/#sclient=psy&hl=en&q=%22miyagi+prefecture%22+site:vgmdb.net&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&pbx=1&fp=889b1624b986748d
But yeah, I'm simply amazed by how well Japan has coped with the 5th strongest earthquake in recorded history so far.

A quick and dirty search:
(Note that this list is for artists born in those areas, they may be living somewhere else currently)
select concat('', name, ' (http://vgmdb.net/artist/', artistid, ')') from vgmdb_artists where citystate like '%Sendai%' or citystate like '%Miyagi%' or citystate like '%Fukushima%' order by name asc

Thank you. We should keep all of them in mind, as they will all be affected by the disaster. Even if they have not been injured, they probably have family/friends who have been lost.

I will indeed keep them in my heart and mind. I am also actively donating to relief organizations in an effort to help.

I'm especially worried about a possible (or already in-process) meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Tchernobyl should have shown us that the long-term consequences of such an accident are just not predictable.
I really hope they can get the situation under control at Fukushima.

That is truly sickening. I am glad that they don't speak for all or a majority of Americans.

Thanks for compiling this, guys. I know it might be a bit shallow, but the composers were the first people I thought of when the Japanese people came to mind. Then again, they are influencing my current career path, so I think it's worth making sure they're all safe.

Wow... Talk about a new definition of retardedness.
I'm still quite stunned at the events. It's like, the worst combination possible, with even bad consequences in the very long run. I really hope it turns out for the better.

Confirmed via email that Tetsuya Shibata and Yoshino Aoki are alright. However, Mr. Shibata said they could feel tremors from the quake at their studio.

And I'm the most shallow of them all, wondering if all this melancholy will affect the quality of their work.
