So anyone know what happened to ffshrine (and more importantly, Galbadia Hotel...)? I can't even get a ping response. Or am I the only one having this problem?

Heh, the monthly costs to run that place are about what it takes to run VGMdb and GFF for a whole year.
There are a whole lot of differing opinions on FFshrine, but one thing it does very well is -- it keeps people from coming to places like VGMdb to ask for the FF7 OST.

He could have been trying to buy a kid or something, and it went terribly, terribly wrong. :-D (Don't sue me!)

That's ridiculous. 2000 dollars a month? I don't get why they just can't find a cheaper server. Our host only charges us around 200 dollars a month and for hosting two different websites the server has never had any major issues. I'm pretty satisfied with servint. The only issue we have with them is the small amount of disk space we get compared to our old host but so far I've been able to open up some space when needed. And when the need comes for more space in order for VGMDB growth we can easily double our space for like an extra 30 dollars a month.
I wouldn't donate any money to Sarah. The whole story sounds very fishy.

I find it bizarre how the site is more likely to disappear due to depleted funds, than due to gargantuan copyright infringement. It boggles my mind how the site has stayed up as long as it already has.

Isn't Sarah actually a guy?

So how do we know this donation doesn't go to a operation of some kind for him?

Who knows, but there's plenty of suckers on the interwebs. Heck, I'm paying for this server because Miles is going on a holiday!

And so I can come back from Japan with a huge box full of new VGM albums.

First off I must say that this is a crock of bullcrap. I used to run gamealbums.com and did so for several years. I paid less than 20 bucks a month and had like 15GB of data xfer per month. I never went over my limmit. Even if I posted an album once a week for download and I had over 1 mil hits in less than 2 years. I did have forums with about 200 members and it was a nice community. Oh and NO POP UPS or AD's.
In one way I hope it shuts down but that would be like closing a sewer plant and having it spill into your front yard.

Oh god. :D
It was an illegal act anyway.. I hope the site will be closed. If you really want something you can buy it. Within the last few years it became really easy to get his beloved CDs.

Well, it's been back for a few days, so it looks like they're doing fine.

So why all the hate for ffshrine? Is it just the free music, or are they guilty of other infractions? Just curious.

Personally, I just hate the owner. He makes me sick. The website itself is fine. Let them foot the huge bandwidth bills for hosting direct downloads. It keeps a majority of the idiots out of places like this and GFF.

Actually, the advertising revenue for the site is apparently more than the hosting costs. That's what the owner said a couple of years ago when Galbadia Hotel was quite well-established. My main problem is the retarded paedophilic owner, but there's also a lot of evidence to support that direct downloads have had a big impact on the industry.

The website itself is fine sure but about half the users have nothing more to talk about other than penis. They even had a thread dedacated to cloud vrs seph penis size.. Also many of their download links were to free hosting sites, not just their own.

Yes. Not knowing the history of the site nor bothering to check
( in my 10 years of being in the sharing scene it was quite stupid of me not to) but I ventured there and opened a FTP. Granted I'm on DC, I'm old school and still love my FTP.
With in 2 weeks time I had tons of leechers doing all sorts of stupid crap. Deleting stuff, not reading links to FAQs on how to use FTP. I visited the chat and was asked A/S/L I told him male, Oregon. One of the mods asked me for a naked pic in exchange for free music. Little did he know I was sharing on their forum.
So that about sums it up. Its a trash site with no class.

In light of Sarah's plea for donations, seems I was wrong about the advertising revenue exceeding the hosting costs. It might have been the case a while ago, but not now. Unless it's a big scam, but I honestly believe he is stupid enough to spend 2,000 a month on hosting a craphole and then lose all his money due to credit card fraud.
