Kudo didn't disappear per se; he's still around working on games, just not composing. He left Konami and joined Love-de-Lic with Masanori Adachi and Hirofumi Taniguchi, and their game Moon has his last known compositions as far as I know. There's an interview here that I always wanted to see translated. It explains a lot, and I even believe it mentions him working at Konami. It would be great to see that part translated at the least. But yeah, Axelay has an amazing soundtrack. One of my top favs. Can't believe he stopped composing.
