I know this is a late discovery, but you have made some faulty edits to the tracklist, depa. The tracktitles are supposed to be exactly as they are on the covers, not according to any kind of standard.
EDIT: Never mind, I was looking in a different order, but you did make some faulty edits at first...

The first 3 Resident Evil soundtracks have some differences on some tracks beetwen japanese and western release.
Some month ago I did a check and reorder all the tracklist to match exactly the cover/booklet. In this case I did a mistake but after that I've readded the correct form and now are ok again.

So is this the soundtrack with a few arrange tracks or what? This is the closest thing I could find to an actual soundtrack for the game but I wasn't sure if it is or not...

Yes, you're right. Some tracks also contain dialog from the game, usually at the start of the track, and only where it makes sense game-wise.

There is currently no specific credit to Akari Kaida, but I've asked Masami Ueda why, so we should probably not remove her from the entry yet.

Apparently Akari Kaida only worked with the good ol' "data conversion" for the game.
How do we credit these people? Do we credit them at all?

Typically we don't credit them, but you can assign some special roles in the "manage artists" page. I'm not sure if 'data conversion' falls on any of those though (more here).

I'd like to think it could fall into Audio Programming. Good call.

depa, I'm not sure I get what you mean. Do you want me to ask him if he knows anything about the compositions for Biohazard 4?

Honestly, he barely knew about the compositions for this album, so I didn't ask him.
I've asked if there is a way I can contact the composers of Biohazard 4 however, so let's hold our thumbs.

EDIT: Sorry, he doesn't know their e-mail addresses.

I got them from Masami Ueda via e-mail. If Makoto Tomozawa really did make Plant 42, then that must mean Masami Ueda provided some incorrect information.

There may be other mistakes. But I do not know more than that.
Akari Kaida and Makoto Tomozawa may know the correct information.
In this mail he corrected "Hiroki Kouichi" to "Kouichi Hiroki", which is why he says "other mistakes".

Tomozawa has a Twitter account. Is anyone up for contacting him about some more details (he speaks English actually)?

I had a post here about how there were two missing tracks on the western release brought out by Viz, but found the listing on here and realized that they are actually on there. I found the album for sale, extremely expensive, on Amazon.com and saw that they strangely only listed 32 tracks. This lead me to believe that the US sound track didn't include all of them. I guess that's a mistake on their part, silly Amazon. Sorry in advance for any confusion if anyone read that before I changed this message.

Kind of surprising that so much of the main BGM is handled by M on M Inc. The track "Wandering About" (and its various renditions) is probably my favourite track of the whole series.

Is this the only released version of the original PSX OST? Also outside of the spoken dialog added to some of the tracks what makes this a Remix? Does this sound different then the versions used on the game disc? I read somewhere that the JP release of the game used altered tracks, can anyone enlighten me, thanks!

And perhaps they were talking about the Dual Shock Director's Cut version? That used different music composed by Mamoru Samuragochi.

Rather late, but since the question was never answered, this is a synth upgrade/expanded music album. Some tracks are extended and, aside from the opening movie (whose stereo has been remixed and volume balance between the music and the narration made more equal) and "Dismal Field" (which has voice and sound effects added), all are different versions than in the game. Unsurprisingly, it's also not all of the music from the game, but it is most of it.

The first track is an instrumental take-off of the song "Gaze of Ice" featured on this single, but that song was written by Hiroshi Yasukawa, not Makoto Tomozawa. I say "take-off" because it's clearly inspired by the song, but it's not the same. You can find the song on YouTube and if you're familiar with the opening movie to Resident Evil, it's pretty easy to hear the similarity, especially at the beginning. Don't know that I'd add Yasukawa as a composer on the page, just pointing it out.

Has Capcom ever said why they felt compelled to make a new soundtrack for the PlayStation DualShock version of the game? And why they approved it after hearing it?

I'm playing through the Japanese original non-director's cut version for the first time and the basement theme is the one that stood out the most, so I found it curious that this one ended up being the most infamous song in the DualShock version.

Yes I just found out about the whole mess with the guy who wrote that updated soundtrack, but actually didn't.
