I typed out the info from the tracklist since it was just an image on the official site:
(some of these have more than one "official" English translation, I used the more recent ones)

Main Theme (Final Fantasy Series)
Rebel Army Theme (Final Fantasy II)
Eternal Wind (Final Fantasy III)
Battle With the Four Fiends (Final Fantasy IV)
Battle at the Big Bridge (Final Fantasy V)
Searching for Friends (Final Fantasy VI)
Love Grows (Final Fantasy VIII)
Not Alone (Final Fantasy IX)
Melodies of Life~Final Fantasy (Final Fantasy IX)
Zanarkand (Final Fantasy X)
Blinded by Light (Final Fantasy XIII)
Serah's Theme (Final Fantasy XIII)

12 Tracks, Order TBD

Figured I'd be the first to say a deliberate omission of VII here. Hopefully this means there will be a second entry chock full of FFVII jazzy town musics? Just give me Rotting Pizza...

with square enix, you could have the choice(s):
SQUARE ENIX JAZZ -STAR OCEAN & VALKYRIE PROFILE-
SQUARE ENIX JAZZ -CHRONO TRIGGER & CHRONO CROSS-
SQUARE ENIX JAZZ -SEIKEN DENSETSU-
SQUARE ENIX JAZZ -SAGA SERIES-

hm what else... ;p

On this occasion may I vent my frustration that whenever "Square Enix" does these things they always solely related to the Square back catalog, never the Enix one? Just think of all the games by Quintet, Grivo and Produce etc. pp.

I suspect there are some issues with rights on the Enix side. To me, that's still no excuse. Write up some legalese stuff so you can negotiate rights and then GIVE ME QUINTET TRILOGY

enix's catalog is shitty and mainly unknown

the only games you know associated to enix aren't made by enix but distributed by enix
I doubt enix has any rights on music of the games they distributed

the page was updated again, looks like a track order has been set:

01 閃光 Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY XIII)
Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY III)
Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY VI)
Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY IV)
Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY II)
Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY V)
Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY XIII)
Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY X)
Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY IX)
10 Melodies Of Life~Final Fantasy Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY IX)
11 Love Grows Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY VIII)
Jazz Arrangement (FINAL FANTASY SERIES)

Orders from the official Square Enix shop get a download code for 2 additional tracks:
Jazz Arrangement (Another Edition)
2. Melodies Of Life~Final Fantasy Jazz Arrangement (Another Edition)

Totally agree on that. A shame, really.
Instead they come up all the time with new names for their arrange albums to have an excuse for re-arranging the same tunes over and over and again and again.

Did you just call stuff like Actraiser, Mystic Ark, Terranigma etc. shitty?

Published actually. Even all the Dragon Quest games were technically only published by Enix and developed by others (by Chunsoft, ArtePiazza etc.). That's just how Enix was setup until it bought Square.

Actraiser, Terranigma made by Quintet, not Enix
Mystic Ark made by Produce, not Enix
next time, check before giving irrelevant examples

Published = distributed

Please keep it cordial...

Also, publishing and distributing are actually two different things.

By your own definition Enix did nothing then, what back catalog are you talking about then? Enix had no in-house development at all before they bought Square.

A few notes about this album:

- Good to see some classic performers who've contributed to a lot of game arrange projects throughout the 90s, especially guitarist Yoshihisa Suzuki, of Pefect Collection Sorcerian ("pro-fusion") fame. Some Kukeiha Club alums and major fusion/jazz masters like Masato Honda on sax and Tappy (drums) as well!

- Arrangers went out of their way to not make this a boring, run-of-the-mill jazz combo arrangement with one or two instruments doing all the talking. There's some fusion/rock/funk and nice transitioning of solos mixed in here.

- a lot of love went into this project for not just jazz (snob) fans, but jazz subgenre fans as well. Arrangers explain some of this in the liner notes.

- Kept it to just one vocal, friendly for non-JP audiences!

- Very cool gatefold paperjacket packaging and LP-inspired CD artwork (for Japan CD nerds, especially) and again English liner notes!

Default Thoughts about this Album

So, what are some thoughts about this album, now that it has been out for about a month?

Is it worth a purchase?

XISMZERO, thanks for providing those notes about this album.

Just got around to listening to this and I think this is definitely one of the better game music CDs from last year. My only complaint would be that there's only two Hamauzu tracks (give me an album with all Hamauzu, please!). The "Blinded by Light" arrangement is super catchy and has some great solos.

The album title makes it sound like this will be a new CD series? If so, hopefully they hire the same team for the next one.

I agree, it's a great album. I especially like "The Rebel Army" and "Not Alone".
