Reasoning behind the release date:
Night Trap Collector's Edition is listed as starting to ship out on Aug 15. https://www.limitedrungames.com/coll...nt=43337256387
Two days later pictures of the limited Wonder Boy started showing up on Twitter. Nobody has of yet posted a single picture of Night Trap. It would seem like Aug 15 was when they started shipping out their limited boxes, and I'm guessing they started with the earlier of the two releases. Sadly LRG don't appear to tweet about when they start shipping stuff, like for instance Data Discs does, so I doubt we'll get a perfectly accurate date for this one.
The way I see it we can either go with this date, the date they started selling the game, Aug 4, or just Aug in general without any specific day.
