Some VGM composers do a couple of cool soundtracks and then just disappear off the face of the earth. It's the darndest thing.
Mari Yamaguchi is one of them, and I always wonder if she kept composing music after she one day just vanished from the capcom offices. Maybe she was cryogenically frozen at capcom, then awakened when they needed her for mega man 10.

Capcom: "Write a track for mega man 10"
Mari: "Oh cool, we're up to 10 now. Is it for the snes?"

She did some sweet orchestral tracks on the snes, mainly on Super Ghouls and The Magical Quest, but also a few tracks on Breath of Fire.
Then there's also mega man 5, featuring a somewhat laid back style compared to the earlier games, and her return to mega man 10 with sheep man.

It's really hard to find any information on these composers, especially since my japanese is rather bad. Does anyone here know if Yamaguchi made any more music?

Her bio in the Mega Man 10 arrangement album says she went freelance in 1993 and works on music for commercials and "concept BGM collections" (I'm not 100% sure what this means, possibly stock music albums that can be licensed for use by whoever) to the present day. Some games are listed, but they're all old Capcom stuff we already know she did: Breath of Fire, Final Fight 2, etc.

Hmm, interesting! Would be fun to hear some of her later stuff... but I would think that's completely impossible to track down, haha.

Thanks for the info!

Many female composers get married, go freelance and "disappear", possibly stopping working altogether. Unfortunately not everyone of them is like Yoko Shimomura who keeps her maiden name as artist and is high profile enough to keep getting high profile works.
