This. I did a quick English-language search and couldn't find anything, so I'm guessing the source is on a Japanese site. But a verification of this statement would be invaluable.

I put a bit info about the oricon chart stuffs on my blog a week ago: http://rologeass.tumblr.com/post/158...tered-top-5-of

2nd position on first day sales (with 19.104 copies). Top 5 on first week sales (with 30.000+ copies).

Here's an official source for album sales, in Japanese
http://www.billboard-japan.com/sp/d_news/detail/49289/2
Yolo Taro also put this news on his twitter

According to Oricon daily ranking, album entered album charts at 2nd position on 28/03, kept this place for 3 days, then 3rd place on 31/03, 8th on 01/04 and 28th on 02/04...

No matter how good this album performed in sales charts, I keep wondering how much the demand outside Japan helped boosting these figures.... but I guess it's quite a lot.

Really wish we could've gotten Emil's Shop in English but I understand why we couldn't.
The timing seems to be different by 1 second in the iTunes soundtrack compared to the amazon soundtrack

Everything surrounding this game makes me so happy: this, the critical acclaim, selling over 1 million copies WW, etc. Taro deserves it.

Frankly I'm suprised that even a brand new soundtrack sells so many copies in Japan, especially in that short time. From what I've heard before VGM soundtracks are more of a niche thing even in Japan, so I guess there's more to it or is this really just the exception?

In any case this is definitely interesting, I'm often wondering how well certain soundtracks actually sell.

It definitely is not the best selling soundtrack. Perhaps in recent years, but not of all time. VGMO has some numbers just from SQEX from 10 years ago:

http://www.vgmonline.net/salesfigures/

And even if you want to dispute it due to lack of cited source (though I'm certain Chris had one), a quick look around on oricon confirms the top seven numbers: http://www.oricon.co.jp/news/72857/full/

It's unusual, but it happens.

To compare other recent VGM albums (week 1 sales):
Final Fantasy XV: ~10,000
Persona 5: ~30,000
Zelda Orchestra Concert: ~10,000
World of Final Fantasy: ~1000
Saga Scarlet Grace: ~1000

Hey, so did *anyone* notice pg. 7-8 of the Liner Notes? Yoko Taro's liner notes are ... special.

I love Yoko Taro

Does anyone know which languages the songs are sung in? Besides the obvious English, French and Japanese. Songs like Amusement Park sound like they're not sung in a real language. Is it true that Emi Evans made up her own language and sings some Nier songs using that?

I've been going through all songs trying to figure out who sings what. Here's a list of what I've got so far. Any input is appreciated.

Disc 1
Spoiler:

01 J'Nique Nicole (based on the title in the booklet)
02 J'Nique Nicole
03 Emi Evans
04 J'Nique Nicole
05 NieR:Automata Choir
06 None
07 Emi Evans
08 Emi Evans, J'Nique Nicole, NieR:Automata Choir
09 Emi Evans
10 NieR:Automata Choir
11 Emi Evans
12 Mai Kadowaki
13 Saki Ishii
14 Emi Evans
15 J'Nique Nicole

Disc 2
Spoiler:

01 Marina Kawano, Emi Evans (based on the title in the booklet)
02 Emi Evans
03 NieR:Automata Choir? Not entirely sure if these are even real voices, or just sampled sounds
04 Emi Evans
05 Saki Ishii (Could also be Pascal's voice actor?)
06 Nami Nakagawa
07 Emi Evans (and Nami Nakagawa?)
08 Nami Nakagawa
09 Emi Evans, Nami Nakagawa
10 Nami Nakagawa
11 Emi Evans
12 Emi Evans
13 NieR:Automata Choir
14 NieR:Automata Choir
15 Marina Kawano

Disc 3

01 Emi Evans? Nami Nakagawa? Marina Kawano?
02 NieR:Automata Choir (Syotarou Seo?)
03 NieR:Automata Choir
04 None
05 Emi Evans?
06 Emi Evans, and someone else?
07 Emi Evans
08 None?
09 Nami Nakagawa, and someone else?
10 Emi Evans
11 Nami Nakagawa
12 Emi Evans, J'Nique Nicole
13 Nami Nakagawa, NieR:Automata Choir

Really? The pronunciation must be as terrible as Asuka in Evangelion, because I can't make out anything.

This is a really helpful guide, a good first-stab at all the vocalists.

But um ... which song is in French? It's not Emi's "Weight of the World." That's "Nouveau French," -- basically her chaos language, but in its first-draft French-heavy form (which she first used on Song of the Ancients). There's clearly no actual-French in that song.

As for Baladium's claim about Pascal's song being in German ... The phonemes are there, but there's so much distortion, and it doesn't help that it's choral vocal and not a singular voice. I agree with BoneSatyr that if it is German, it's Eva-Asuka quality.

There are also sections of "Pascal" that sound more Japanese then German. You'll hear two-syllable patterns like "Saka" and "Koshi" (or is that "Hoshi"?) that feel very Japanese. But then at like ... 2:48 I'm almost positive I hear the word "Scheide" or "Scheiden."

I'd feel comfortable categorizing it as Neue-Deutsch, like Nouveau-French.

But if they were true German lyrics, I'd love to see them and study them. What would be truly interesting is if the lyrics were all pulled directly from Nietszche

Spoiler:
Pascal and Sartre may be French, but Pascal is caught in one scene reading Nietszche, which I found timely given what happens in the following sequence

I simply assumed "Weight of the World/Nouveau-FR Version" was in French (didn't think the word "Nouveau" before "FR" was actually important). I have no understanding of French, so I probably wouldn't hear any difference.

At 0,33 its "Dann schenkt Gott mir ein ???" the last word sound like 'Schleife"

At 0,36 its "weil ich ,glaub ich "

The next words are really hard to understand, but it sounds german.

The refrain at 1,13 its "Weil ich dich mag, ich hab dich gern"

I guess everything is in german but it hard to understand because of the bad pronounce

I,m a native German but still its hard to understand.

German is my second language, the only language I speak with any competence other than English (Japanese is read/write only, my spoken Japanese is weak).

Listening to it now, I hear every single thing you've written. You have my convinced that at the very least, there are fully German phrases in the song. I cannot rule out the possibility that our childish robot friends change languages somewhere during the song (did you hear "Saka" and "Koshi" like I did? Somewhere around 1,40).

The lines you quote, though, are very interesting. "Then God gives me a 'loop'" (bow/ribbon, but also possible to be like a moebius strip, turing tape kind of thing)

"Because I like you, I like (having) you (around)" ... there's something fun and simple and childish about these lyrics.

Nice work Baladium. It's a shame that the full lyrics to Pascal weren't published in the liner notes. I'll do some digging to see if someone at MONACA can't give us the full set of lyrics.

Well, Okabe-san is standing firm on chaos language. I wrote the following to him on Twitter...

Quote:
@MONACA_okabe すみません
Okabe-san! 楽曲[パスカル] -- ドイツ語 歌詞? 全歌詞, ファンはそれらを持っていることができますか?Arigatou gozaimasu!
(my poor translation: "Excuse me, Okabe-san! The song [Pascal] -- Are the lyrics in German? The full lyrics, can you give them to the fans? Thanks so much!")

His reply, in English:

Quote:
Hi !
The words of NieR Songs is an imaginary language. There is not the plan to show to a fan.
Sorry !!
Considering he is the listed composer for "Pascal," I suspect that any German that we can hear and make sense of in that song may have slipped under even MONACA's radar. There are portions we can hear and go "okay that's a sentence," and other portions where it's like "um, I don't hear anything that makes sense."

I know I'm late to the discussion, but with the original NieR soundtrack, they didn't so much invent languages as imagine what each language would sound like after a couple thousand years of continued change and evolution, so someone playing the game would hear lyrics that sound like English or French or whatever but wouldn't actually be English, French, etc. I haven't seen anything specifically discussing this for the Automata soundtrack, but I suspect they took the same approach. It's a really neat approach, but can be rather annoying if you want a copy of the lyrics or even just want to sing along. :-)

It's one of the instrumental layers of "Sound of the End". The version on the soundtrack has vocals on top of it.

Here's a game rip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9SxNzpsMqo

A bit late to the game here, but I just sent a request to MONACA asking for a list of who performed the vocals (officially). Doubt I'll get anything, but it's worth a shot! :')

Absoluty stunning Soundtrack.

The chanting, piano and partial military esque implementations are simply excellent...

This coming to Switch on 6 Oct is even better.
