I would like confirmation on the composer here listed as "Hiroshi Tamura." Who came up with this? It seems highly suspect, considering EVERY OTHER Tales game with Motoi Sakuraba as a composer has his partner in crime, "SHINJI Tamura," with him on it. Is this not the person in question? I'd like to see the kanji on a "Hiroshi Tamura," or where this data come from. It seems abundantly clear to me that it ought to read Shinji Tamura, but I have no method of confirmation at this point.

okay, MS Wiki also lists a "Hiroshi Tamura" on the Tales of Rebirth and Tales of Vesperia pages (not sure what capacity, I'm at work, filters out snesmusic.org).
But check this. Do a google search for this album's catalog number (BVCR-14044) and Hiroshi Tamura's name in Kanji (田村宏史). You'll get *zero* results. Run it again using Shinji Tamura's kanji, and you get two results, one of which seems like a legitimate Japanese site to me: detail.psearch.yahoo.co.jp/i/6pR8_.e6.wkCoWMMWDu7nj/ Frankly, I don't trust Datschge's MS Wiki entry using Hiroshi Tamura. More research is required. |

I can't find 田村 信二 on the page.
Hiroshi Tamura is credited for sound effects in Tales of Rebirth and Vesperia. I tend to trust Datschge, usually. |

Is that one specific google search a big issue? (the second is just the tag of niconico that google hit accidentally and is really unrelated to that page itself). Even if it is, how about trying again with "田村宏史" and "ハーツ" or "テイルズ"? I know it's still not much of a confirmnation either, but that's my point.
Datschge will settle this discussion (besides that 2ch leak, I mean), so I'd be rather curious about when Aoyama = Tamura is officially confirmed. There are some clues, but still. Last edited by Cedille; Mar 6, 2009 at 12:46 PM. |

All the staff info in the MS Wiki comes from the games's staff rolls as far as I know, so they should be 100% correct. Unless there was a mistake in the transcription I don't know why you wouldn't trust it.
Here is another site that lists Hiroshi Tamura as the composer: http://www.talesing.com/var/toh/index.php?id=credit |

here's another worthwhile question then, if we can determine it: is Hiroshi Tamura related to Shinji Tamura, or is it just a semi-common last name?

In the liner notes Hiroshi Tamura says he did battles, dungeons and towns. Quite interesting.
Sakuraba vaguely mentions he did the FMV music (as usual). Hibiki Aoyama doesn't comment, and since he's listed last in the composer list makes me think his role here was limited. EDIT: Keroro RPG was composed by Hibiki Aoyama, Hiroshi Tamura & Kenta Yabe (no Sakuraba), so it's a good study case to guess who-did-what. Though the synth still makes it hard. I guess 2.10 is Hiroshi Tamura's? SECRIT AND EXCLUSIVE EDIT: Hiroshi Tamura was kind enough to tell me he did about 40 tracks, battle music being: 1.37, 1.44, 1.45 and 2.10. Makes a lot of sense to me. With that out of the way, other unconfirmed battle themes surely are all by Sakuraba. His answer was a bit confusing so I'm not 100% sure about the "40" figure. If you take out all the Sakuraba confirmed tracks (see below) + extra battle themes that Sakuraba would have done, that makes just 42 unconfirmed tracks. I'd expect Sakuraba and Aoyama to have done a bunch. I'll try to inquiry more. EDIT AGAIN: Vita sound test because. Spoiler:

Hibiki Aoyama / Shinji Tamura, as we know, uses mostly a rather minimal, ambient pop/synth structure (like in Vesperia or Dawn of the New World), which isn't found on this soundtrack that much. Still there are a few examples like "Eyes Staring at the Truth" or "World Filled with Sorrow", which are just typically him (especially the bass line). Hiroshi Tamura seems to imitate Sakuraba here with a similar orchestral texture, much thinner however, like "Overflowing Nightmare", "Glory of the Imperial Capital" or "Gather, Warriors!!". These are just guessings. Motoi Sakuraba is easy to figure out at most pieces, some however I'm uncertain about. Tracks, which are confirmed are: FMV music (Disc 1: 3-9, 20, 21 ; Disc 2: 11, 15, 19, 23, 24, 29) Battle music (Disc 1: 15 ; Disc 2: 5, 12, 18) BGM music (Disc 1: 2, 12, 13, 28, 31, 33 ; Disc 2: 9, 16, 31 (arrange) Sources: Liner Notes, ToH CG Movie Edition Visual & Original Soundtrack DVD, TotW: Radiant Mythology #3 (where he arranges 3 battle themes) |

So Hiroshi Tamura is also a member of the Symphonic Orchestra Yamato? A fact, I also never knew...

Nah that was an errant link, the Yamato performer has a different Japanese name (田村洋).

Seeing how this is pretty much a historic thread on Hiroshi Tamura I think it's fitting to post more info on him here as well. He's been cryptic about it before, but lately he's open both on Twitter and FB that the game company he now works at is Capcom. Haven't seen any game credits listing him yet, but he's already mentioned once here on vgmdb, as music director for Euro Historia: http://vgmdb.net/album/45017

That's nice, he's quite elusive and I couldn't find much about him before (other than his band 夜姫と熊猫).
For Tamura's "40" figure, if you count the track's length looped and add a few extra tracks it does reach 40 minutes so I guess it's possible. For 2.20-22 the synths used (ex whistle in 20) don't seem very Sakuraba, but it's just my general impression. Other tracks that could be (or not) Hiroshi Tamura's: 1.10 (Keroro TOWN06), 2.06, 2.30. |

Looks like Bandai Namco (through NexTone Inc.) recently started adding Tales soundtracks to youtube. The tracks for Tales of Hearts have per song composer credits which don't appear to be guesses:
