Default Meta-franchise / Franchise system upgrade

for trusted editors and above

Meta-franchise

*** subproducts
meta-franchise can have products and franchises linked in the same subproducts list
example: http://vgmdb.net/product/3627 (koei)

*** relations
related -> franchises that aren't directly related to one game franchise can be put here (see koei example: neoromance)
prequel -> meta-franchises can have a predecessor/successor relationship
example: KOEI TECMO can link KOEI and TECMO as prequels (note that only prequels can be linked)

*** edit meta-franchise page
new franchise or product can be added there if it's related to the contents of the meta-franchise (no need to use the [+] on top menu's products icon)

link subproduct -> link an existing franchise or product appearing in the subproducts list
link related product -> link an existing franchise or product appearing in the relations list

note: if a product or franchise got wrongly linked, its relation can be updated (without forgetting checking [] apply)

Franchise

*** belongs to
if a franchise is linked to a meta-franchise, its parent franchise will appear there

*** subproducts
franchise can have products and franchises linked in the same subproducts list
example: http://vgmdb.net/product/3751 (final fantasy / square enix)

note: franchises (like ffcc) linked to franchise (ff) can be seen as subfranchises (still act like normal franchises)

*** relations
related -> franchises that aren't directly related to one game franchise can be put here (like fabula, ivalice or compi of ffvii)
prequel -> franchises can have a predecessor/successor relationship
example: final fantasy games got released under square and square enix
- in order to make a certain distinction between their parent companies, the final fantasy franchise got split into 2 parts
- thus the 1st part is linked to SQUARE, and its 2nd part is linked to SQUARE ENIX

*** edit franchise page
new product can be added there if it's related to the contents of the franchise (no need to use the [+] on top menu's products icon)

link subproduct -> link an existing franchise (as a subfranchise) or product appearing in the subproducts list
link related product -> link an existing franchise or product appearing in the relations list

note: if a product or franchise got wrongly linked, its relation can be updated (without forgetting checking [] apply)

(note: I hope it's not too confusing; if any question, ask)

I think we need to rethink this idea, so can we put a temporary hold on adding and linking meta-franchises?

I doesn't make sense to me to have company meta-franchises. Why not use our current media-company pages as the meta-franchise and come up with a way to link products to them? Aside from companies, I'm not sure what is left for meta-franchises.

The splitting of existing franchises has created some undesirable results, as you mentioned, like Final Fantasy being split into two entries now:

http://vgmdb.net/product/23
http://vgmdb.net/product/3751

I don't think this is a good solution. Most users want to see a single final fantasy.
