But yeah, whatever the consensus says regarding which abbreviation to use I won't mind: pg. or pp., it's all the same to me. What's one less character anyway...? |

Can't we just go back to using good old numbers only? I dislike these prefixes. Maybe we could at least use "p." for pages that are indeed numbered, but otherwise not. Pleeeeeaaaase? o_o

So we definitely should use the same caption for single or multiple pages. We could also go back to the old caption styles without anything.. but that would not be my first choice. |

Booklet interior? It kind of gels with the already use of interior, plus from what I can tell it doesn't need pluralization, so Booklet interior 1, Booklet interior 2, or Booklet interior 1-2 (1 & 2) are all the same.

Well, I think it should be kind of obvious where NSFW is due. Although, I do wonder; should we really put NSFW on pictures with panty shots? I saw one scan being marked as NSFW for that... It wasn't really "harmful" or anything. |

So, does everyone like this choice? I forgot that I changed it to pp (in the jquery uploader) and never changed it back to pg.
Also, we're probably ready to make the proposed changes to the guidelines. |

I personally do not mind about the choice (pg. , pp. , p. ..)
The important thing is to always use the same abbreviation for the same set of scan or it will put scans in a total disorder. I think we got nearly everything covered now. If there is any other question, let us know. |

I assume I am OK with them. I would suggest an updating of either the first post or so to show all the changes that will be enacted. Myrkul and others suggested a batch and no real showing of which were chosen to be kept or not.
As an aside, I do not envy the person who will be going through the scans after the change over to make them uniform. |

Well, we're all in this together, so you could certainly help whenever you come across entries needing a little cleanup.

About the old scans.. everyone can rename them if they want to, but going through the whole database just doing it is probably impossible work. I do change the scans when i browse an album with old captions. Also i have been renaming every incoming scans for a couple months with the new captions (mainly using "pg." at that time). |

I'm all of a sudden confused... We're using p. for booklet scans, correct? (Following Secret Squirrel's post)

So i guess we'll be using that Like i said i do not have any problem with the choice of users, and i don't think we do not have to have all the scans in the whole database with the same abbreviations. The important thing is to have an abbreviation to indicate the word "page", and use always the same for the entry. |

Perfect.
I've been editing a few booklet scans, so I wanted to make sure. |

This album originally had scans named "Disc 1 (CD)" and "Disc 2 (DVD)". Recently someone (I'm guessing CHz) renamed it to only "CD" and "DVD", what's up with that?! Do we even have solid guidelines for this yet... ? Kinda stupid to REMOVE the disc numbers if you ask me. Last edited by Nisto; Feb 6, 2011 at 03:23 PM. |

I don't think i covered that on the guideluine..
I personally don't mind about using CD/DVD and not Disc 1/2... but that's only if there is not more than 2 discs (which are different). Somes bonuses discs does not have any number printed on them.. or not mentioned on the package, so i think it's best to mention such discs as "bonus disc" for example. Anyway, i don't think this is extremely important. |

So recently I was going to upload some scans, but when I selected the files in the uploader they all came back with a "file too big" message, or something along those lines. This is a very good thing, I'd just like to know at what point the file is too big. File size and even picture size, if there is a cap on the width+length of what an image can be. That way, I know for future stuff I upload.
Sorry if I missed this mentioned somewhere... I read the thread but didn't see it (just that there is a limit). |

The exact limits are unknown to me, but they are present.
Maybe Secret or Blah could answer your question precisely. |

Okay, I'll try sizing them under 5 MB. There may not be a width+height limit. Thank you.

The width+height is limited by the raw image data the server can handle, I believe. Last time I tried uploading a ~6300x4300 scan it didn't work.

The raw image size is limited by PHP's memory limit and can be calculated width x height x depth (e.g. 6300x4300x16bit = 433 440 000 bits = 54 180 000 bytes ~= 51.67 MB). Memory for the raw image size is needed for creating thumbnails and the likes, getting the width and height is cheaper and could be done beforehand to warn the uploader after an upload completed but before the image processing.

For "registration card" / "survey card" scans, I think we should actually start using "post card" instead. Hagaki (はがき) is printed on most (if not all) of them, and that directly translates to post card.

We could do that, although it might be confusing with an actual postcard (which can also correctly be written as "post card"). Or, is it an actual postcard in the real use of the word?
Also, what I wonder now is how the term "registration card" came into use. Last edited by Hellacia; Apr 28, 2012 at 11:20 AM. |

I've been not adding disc scans anymore, since it's somewhat painful to get a not inclined disc scan with my poor skills and limited time. I know I could use a thin (and preferably black-color or transparent) tray and align the corner of the tray with the corner on the scan's glass surface, or just should be less intolerant. I'm worried posting an incomplete set of scans is kinda problematic, since not so many persons are willing to fill the holes. It might be helpful to reserve a slot for missing scans, so that it encourages someone else to help.

You know, I've had this exact same idea in my head for a while now. This would probably be the best way to present what was included with the release, too (I've actually put that in the notes for some albums already).

Yeah, I always wished we made note of this somewhere. For example, I never really knew it because we don't have a scan of it and my copy didn't come with one, but Provincialism Ys comes with an obi. I found a (very small) picture of one on the case, like we have in many of our scans, on some shop or auction site somewhere. But usually, even if we don't have a scan of the obi, we have scans of the case front and case back with the obi attached, like I mentioned, so you can at least see one is included. But we don't even have that, and since my copy didn't come with one, I was pretty convinced "okay, there just strangely isn't an obi." But there is. I think people would appreciate knowing that something comes with an obi even if they're not using such information to help fill in the blanks for scans.
Also I really wish more people would help out with scans ;__; |

This seems like a great idea. We just need to think about how to integrate it, and what the interface should look like.
