Default Massive Otaku.com listings in marketplace

Hey,

I just noticed that the (well-known) onlineshop otaku.com added a lot of albums to his account's salelist.

While I agree that we're missing otaku.com/be in a lot of "Available at" boxes, I'm not sure if the VGMdb marketplace is there to "advertise" some onlineshop.

Thoughts?

Greets,
liquid

It seems like the hard way for them to do things, but it does offer the advantage of being able to remove an album when its sold. It's harder to do that with links. While I agree it's probably better for their albums to show up with the other store links, if this works for them, then I'm fine with it.

Hi!
Alex at Otaku.com here.
I'm trying to stop listing on eBay...
so I thought I'd add our available CDs to vgmdb marketplace.

If there are any problems, let me know and I'll remove
any or all of the items.

I plan to bulk remove all the items every month,
and submit a new collection, which will include any new additions.

Plus I'll remove any rare CDs which get sold on a day to day basis.

Will that be okay?

thanks ~ Alex

Hey, Alex.

Sure, that's okay. Perhaps in the future, I will come up with an easy way for someone to manage their own set of shop links, but for now you can keep using the collection if you'd like.

Now vgmworld.com has listed over 500 items for sale in the database, with more on the way I'm sure. If companies with their own web-site are going to start listing on the site, it's going to really screwing up the dynamic for the average use who just wants to trade and sell pieces of their collection. Are changes going to be made? At the very least I don't think it's fair for them to list with prices as negotiable when the price of the item is clearly listed on their web-site, and in the case of vgmworld.com, those prices often exceed $400 per album.

Yeah, I do have a (simple) solution in mind -- create a separate category and feed. I'm going to work on it fairly soon.

Why not give the shops a dedicated interface for fast batch adding and removing "Available at" links?

Like Catalia I think the marketplace should be reserved for small-scale "business".

EDIT: The "interface" could simply use a simple CSV as input, containing catalog numbers and the corresponding shop links.

I Agree, it totally screws up the whole thing. And it totally wastes our time since as you said, albums have prices on his site but not here.

The items not being priced is extremely annoying -- it isn't negotiable. If the websites were actually posted on their user page it wouldn't be so annoying to me.

Take some time and put the prices up.

To be honest though, this goes for pretty much everyone in the marketplace. The prospect of haggling for an album I'm only semi-interested in (as compared to a set price, which I can decide for myself if it is fair or not) is often the deciding factor to not pull the trigger on a transaction.

Another thing I just noticed is that otaku and these other sites are slow to take down items no longer for sale on their website. -_-
