Default VGMdb Alpha Test

After a few months floating in limbo, we've finally got the previous functionality restored . At this point, we're opening the site up to staff and associates to test out the features, and locate bugs or inconsistancies. Things should be fairly familiar to you, but there are a number of additions that will be incorporated during the Alpha Test. You'll notice that the old CMS isn't available anymore. All of the useful functions from there will be migrated over into VGMdb before any kind of Beta launch, so stay tuned.

Progress as of last night:
  • Staff control panel added. None of the functions are added yet; that'll take a fair amount of time.
  • Began implementation of usergroup-based privilege scheme.
  • High-quality scans can now only be viewed by a registered, logged-in member.
  • Various changes made to templates, mostly for display consistency.

Also, I see that a Googlebot is spidering the heck out of us. I think I really goofed here in thinking that we were still an unattached floating island immune to detection. We're really just not ready to be indexed and stumbled upon again.

I've set it to staff-only viewing for now.

Good, that'll stop the spiders until we're ready.

Progress as of last night:
  • Sewed up some of the Collections for the members who are already registered.
  • Disabled submission of albums by Guests. From now on, all updaters must register first.

The titles of all of our viewable functions have been changed from gfa-* to vgmdb-*. There might be a few issues due to the change, so be sure to report anything funny.

The Collection Browser is working now. It now shows a listing of the most recent and the largest collections, and lets you search by username. There are still a number of them listed as Unknown User because that person hasn't registered yet.

I know I'm still dancing around some of the most important issues, namely the submission/moderation behavior. These are going to be difficult to tackle, so I'll probably continue cutting my teeth on the low-hanging fruit until Gigablah gets back.

Also, thanks go out to Kaleb.G for our spiffy new banner.

Added some new fields (staff notes, inactive albums, and questionable albums) to the search. These are available to staff. While I was in there, I fixed the search by media type; for some reason it wasn't working, though I would have sworn it was working back on the old site. Anyway, the search parameters seems to be working well together, but it's important to test some more complicated strings.

My work is on hold for the time being. I've had a family emergency come up, so I'll be out of town for a few days, starting today.

Best wishes.

Slowly implementing the datamanager. Hopefully I'll have a working prototype soon. Also, going to fix scan uploads.

I'm back, for now. My mom had open heart surgery, which seems to have gone well so far. For now, I'm back in town, and back at work.

Progress
- Added the Duplicate Checker to the Staff Control panel
- Moved the album title color definitions into vgmdb-init so that they can be used uniformly by other functions. Please report any screw-ups in the album title coloring.
- Old School Update log implemented, and recoded to operate on the update database, instead of the albums database, so that each individual change shows up on the recent updates page. I'll be continuing work on this page.

Progress
Recent Updates viewer is complete, and shows a listing of the most recently updated albums, tracklists, and scans. The only thing I still want to do is to add view-by-date capability.

At this point, I feel confident enough to move onto the more critical functions.
