Default Fake Super Mario Galaxy 2 Original Sound Track

This hasn't been verified, but I have a feeling it's legit. This can be removed if the opposite is found to be true.

I'm skeptical about it--gamerips are floating endlessly on the Interwebs. But my hopes are high for a release, though.

Somebody ripped the entire soundtrack before the release date and created professional looking album art for it? I'm skeptical of that. Either the best fake I've ever seen, or it's real.

But since there's no official info on the album proper, I'll deactivate it for now.

It's a rip, and the cover was fan-made.

Seems like the original source is from NeoGaf board.

Maybe skeptical wasn't the correct word to use, so let's just say I'm taking it with a grain of salt.

As for the album art, anybody can do a professional-looking one; I do every time for my gamerips.

I think that would be the best thing to do until info is made available.

Playing Devil's Advocate for a minute, do you have proof of this?

I suppose I'm just hopeful that Nintendo would do something nice for the fans of its music... Given that it rarely releases soundtracks, and when they do, they're simply promos.

I tried accessing the Japanese Club Nintendo site to see if it had any info on this album, but I couldn't access the site. Hmmm...

No direct proof as i am not a member of that board.

But i just read the comments on these Youtube Videos.
Someone says it come from neogaf.
and someone else says that "he" created the cover.

Someone on YouTube claiming to be MahitoYokota, no confirmation that it's really him, uploaded much of the music from the game a day or two before the game was released. When you mouse-over the album cover, it says: "Soundtrack available for purchase soon!".

Don't know what exactly this means but it wouldn't at all surprise me if there is another official soundtrack.

What is "the box" that people are supposed to think outside of anyway? Hmm. Maybe it's similar to the Borg from Star Trek who dwelled as a collective hive-mind within a...box/cube. Those that deviated from this hive-mind would, in effect, be thinking outside of the box. it has both a figurative and a literal meaning.

OK. I'm back just because of this joke of an album.

If you look at the track titles, you can see that American titles/localizations are used (i.e. Final Bowser Battle) while others are completely unprofessional (i.e. Boss Theme 1) and, when listening to them, the cutoff points are too sudden and there's too much silence at the end compared to standard OSTs.

Furthermore, OSTs for games made in Japan are never released this early, especially not to this degree.

I'm not so easily deceived. :[
*wags the finger of shame upon the fake MahitoYokota

I could go either way of this. Some people on the Internet make fake things and claim they are real, but some others also claim real things are fake.

Generally, people who release game rips and produce album art wouldn't go so far as to put a publisher label on the album art (such as we see here with the Club Nintendo logo). So if this is a fake, they're doing it deliberately to be assumed as legitimate, which is possible.

In any case, no comment acknowledging or denouncing this channel has come about so far by Nintendo.

Yeah, there's no soundtrack (yet), just very high quality and well tagged game rips. I'd like to think the "MahitoYokota" YouTube account is legit but there's really no solid evidence anywhere. I actually created one of the few game rips floating around and I used the album art from those YouTube vids in my tags. I was very careful to not use "Original Soundtrack" in my album tag, even though I'm sure some people are unfortunately doing that, leading to this confusion.

This is all different by album. And full music previews for unreleased albums are not unheard of. In this case, assuming the album is to be real, it would be a promotional album, and thus not sold for profit.

It was my thought that since the SMG1 OST never got an American release, this time Mahito decided to be nice and provide the soundtrack online for American audiences around the American release date.

However, this is Nintendo we're talking about, which raises the possibility that this is fake.

How are people getting this before the release date? A leak or broken street date?

If this does prove to be fake, would it be worth keeping this entry and flagging it as a bootleg digital release? It seems to be high profile enough of a case for something of this sort, given this channel is being announced on many sites over the Internet.

The release date is today in the U.S. (midnight to be exact, 17 hours ago on the east coast). But yes it did leak earlier than that.

Wouldn't be the first time this happened in the U.S. (Points to Brawl)

Also:
Starship Mario I-III (medley) and I, II, and III individually. That's something only gamerips would have. Admit it.

I donno bout dat. If it is fake then it probably wouldn't even qualify as a digital release but a GameRip; so there shouldn't be an entry. Anyway, that's just my assumption.

If this were a gamerip, which as far as I'm concerned is, the reason it is a "high profile enough of a case" is because someone is posing as Mahito Yokota. Simple. I don't see any reason whatsoever to keep this entry if this is proven to be a mere gamerip (which is).

So in other words: it's still a gamerip, not a bootleg, so definitely no.

My 2¢.

This talk about digital bootlegs gives me an air of nostalgia.

Looks like we were all fooled! Taken from Nobuooo:

Quote:
As it turns out, the MahitoYokota YouTube channel that appeared online late last week seems not to have been a trend-setting advertising strategy by Nintendo after all. The movies have since disappeared, being replaced by a notification reading: "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Nintendo of America Inc." Nearly 2000 viewers have subscribed to the channel, among the most viewed this week in Japan.
Between the time that was posted up on Nobuooo and now, the account was actually removed from YouTube!

I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so.

And YES! There's going to be a proper release after all!

Excellent.

Yokota said on his videos that the soundtrack would be released soon, so...
=P

But why upload the songs then? Anyone can rip them from YouTube and make a collection (which actually happened XD)... Maybe when he started he wasn't sure if they would release the soundtrack =S

Ahh, I don't know...

Good job, Myrkul. I've reactivated this entry with the real album information.

I actually peed my pants a little bit when... I read your post about an official SMG2 soundtrack!
