Default Site customization and album filtering

We've replaced the options dropdown menu with a customize button (the "gear" button to the right, on the subnavigation) that slides down our new preference management panel, which is divided into two halves. The settings on the left are identical to the previous dropdown. What's new are the album filtering options to the right, which work pretty much the same as the controls on advanced search. Right now filters are in effect on almost all pages except artist discographies and collections.

Advanced Search doesn't enforce the filter, but your settings will be pre-filled on the search form.

By the way, you can click the customize button again to slide the preferences back up, if you're just changing language displays on the fly.

Yay, no more doujins and bootlegs for me. Thanks for implementing this!

We're going to start migrating this to the rest of the pages, but is there anywhere we don't want filtering? The moderation queue is one obvious place. The way it is implemented, we could add it just about everywhere else (I think.)

The only pages I visit that I've noticed them still appearing are the Recent Updates pages (Albums, Media, etc.) and the Marketplace. I don't need to see doujins/bootlegs for sale as I would never buy them.

I set up filtering on Recent Albums, Media, and Ratings, and also practically everything in the marketplace.

I didn't touch collections, though the want-lists and sell-lists are all filtered. We also still don't filter artist discographies, publisher pages, or event pages. Some of these could be added, but others are debatable.

Cool, this works when you aren't logged in, too.

We're getting a lot more anime albums added now. I fear the floodgate is about to burst.

Anyway, do you guys want filtering to occur in the discographies too? What about the Org pages? I can add it to some of the statistic subpages as well.

I prefer filtering for main page only or at least a checkbox where you can select what pages you want to filter. That way it's up to the user at least.

Also, and I've talked about this a lot, I'd love to be able to filter by "Classification" in some way. I know it can contain multiple fields (Original Soundtrack AND Arrange for example) but perhaps some kind of override system? Like "if Original Soundtrack is in classification, ignore Arrange filter" or similar...

What about filters in the updates page? Right now it's a green mass.
Actually, I'd be really cool if you could update the updates page (har har) with more stuff... (wink wink)

Recent updates are filtered, but it only works on the Albums, Media, and Ratings. I might be able to get it to work on Tracklists and Scans. Is there any way to apply it to Artists or Links that makes sense (maybe don't display linkups from filtered albums.)?

Dramas are the only thing I'd filter, but I've a question: the filter will only dismiss Dramas or will it also ignore releases that contain Dramas?

EDIT: Like Remastered Tracks Rockman Zero: Telos for example.

Well, it would depend on how you do it.

If you filter to exclude dramas, you'll exclude that album.

If you filter to include arrangement, and don't touch the drama checkbox, you should get that album, but you won't see the drama albums with no arrangement tracks.

It filters by category, so albums with drama tracks but are of a different category won't be filtered. However this still isn't completely desirable due to fact that there are some music CDs (as I recently learned) that have the category of drama. Perhaps a means of filtering albums only of a single classification would work around this?

PsychoZeke is talking about the possible extension of the filter to Classification.

I think we should change the name of Radio/Drama to something that doesn't use the word Drama, as it's confusing.

How about sticking with "Talk"? I know it's a broad term, but for the sake of simplicity I believe it would work well--it does encompass both "radio" and "dramas" anyway.

Just me 2ยข.

Matter with Talk, is that it's also used on the classifications.

Radio/Shows maybe ?

I know, but I was referring to the "Category" field.

This is random, but I can't get Original Works (blue) to show up. Any one know of a quick fix (this is at my work computer, not at home...)? I can't seem to find that option on the Preferences page.

They never show up ever? What are your current settings (click on the little sun up on the top right)?

Remember that the Blue albums have no Category, so if you set your category to only show Game or Anime, you'll never get any blue albums.

That makes sense. It seemed those categories were checked to filter for just those. I see them now after making the necessary changes. It wasn't defaulted to that at home so I was just curious.

Yeah, those settings are saved locally, primarily for the work-safe images switch.
