Default RPG Elements Round I Compo

As promised, I created a compo! Hopefully everyone likes the idea and is excited to participate. If it turns out to be popular, hopefully we can compile our imaginary game's music into a soundtrack and send it out to community members in the end (with, of course, permission from the composers).

Good luck!

I got this idea when I was sitting around thinking that I would like to compose some national anthem (or even theme, if you will). Like, if Soviet Russia was in a game, how could I portray that nation musically? The wish to compose something of that sorts lead me to start my string of compos with this particular challenge. With this compo, though, it's a little harder because you're prompted to envision your own nation--any nation you want.
The style that you choose is pretty open-ended, too... if you'd like to do an actual anthem with words, that would work; or, if you'd like to do an instrumental track that, say, a band parading the streets of a town in the nation would play, that's fine as well.
The power is yours!

awesome idea for a comp O'tition, and series of compos!
i might have to see what i can come up with; been researching.
dunno if you super badasses need/are-aware-of this info, but it's a quick rundown of the different styles of real-world nat'l anthems; relating to cultural differences, time of origin, type of gov't, etc.
and the site's got a crapton of midi's and lyrics [at least one per country, alotta the west has multiple for different eras] to get an idea of the styles.

not that in your world it has to follow guidelines [just some inspirado that helped stir my imagination], cos if that even happened in the real world we'd all just have different lyrics for god save teh queen.

that being said, now i can't get the image of some royal in arabia arriving to the chrono trigger victory music outta my head.

That site is great. Now we're all going to be looking to China's anthem for inspiration since it was voted as being the best XD

Hmm, just checked out China's there. I don't really get it... Russia's is far better imo. So much passion and strength... y'know, the whole soviet union thing aside, lol. I wrote a piece for this comp but it's also coming out dull and generic and quite... cheesy. -_-' Might be because I'm so used to hearing the Irish one, which I never liked. I might try something totally different so I at least post something worth listening to, even if it's not particularly "anthemy".

I extended the shelf life of my comp an extra week... I've had no time to work on anything yet, unfortunately. That may seem a little rotten, but shoot, I made it the theme it is 'cause I wanted to compose for it ; )

Hey WarpToken, with the compos you actually have to submit your song on the compo page. I was having some trouble with my browser and haven't submitted mine yet, so I extended the date until Wednesday. See if you can get yours up.

I submitted the song from the comp page, but it's not showing up.

Also...kinda sucks that you can only submit one song. Since I'd like to have the instrumental only track up too.

Have you tried submitting it again or telling quintin about the problem?

I will try again. I haven't told Q.

I was told the vocals were a bit quiet, so I punched 'em up a bit.

Default Apologies

Hi,

I wanted to apologize to everyone who's been affected by this song uploading bug. There seems to be a strong correlation between Mac users and frequency of the bug. I really want to resolve it, but I don't have access to a Mac. If you have a reproducible case on a Windows computer, then please post the song and the steps that you used to reproduce it. Also, did anyone encounter this error while attempting to upload a file that took more than 30 minutes to finish?

I can't reproduce the issue with submitting songs to a compo after they have been uploaded, and need more information on the problem. Are there no songs listed as being available to submit? Are you able to click the "Submit" button, and then nothing happens? Is an error message displayed?

Thanks,

-Steve

Congratulations, WarpToken! Expect the next one soon since I have a good amount of free time opening up (not if you take into account the hours I'm putting into Final Fantasy XIII ).
