Credits: (Audy-Rowland/Levy) Nico Audy-Rowland: Fender Telecaster Deluxe, Danelectro Companion David Levy: Drum samples M-11 - "From RVB14E18. This was the first of four tunes for the RvB "Musical" episode of Season 14, which featured Geoff Ramsey, Gus Sorola, and Matt Hullum on vocals. Miles flew up to my studio in Seattle, and we spent three days conceptualizing the story as well the lyrical and melodic basis for these songs. We wanted the intro to be short, raw, and with minimal instrumentations." Credits: (Audy-Rowland/Luna) Nico Audy-Rowland: Fender Telecaster Deluxe, Danelectro baritone guitar Violet Heart: Steinway piano Steve Scully: Drums M-12 - "From RVB14E18. This tune features much of the red team singing as their respective characters: Matt Hullum, Gus Sorola, Geoff Ramsey, Dan Godwin, and possibly Miles Luna or Burnie Burns as Lopez. Some of the lyrics, specifically the various names for a rocket launcher, were crowdsourced by Miles on social media "what are some of your favorite names for a rocket launcher" and recorded later that day by Miles at my studio — in fact, I have a recording with Miles singing ALL of the parts which were then distributed to the voice actors as a template." Credits: (Audy-Rowland/Luna) Nico Audy-Rowland: Fender Telecaster Deluxe, Danelectro Companion, Arpeggione, Danelectro baritone guitar, Drums Violet Heart: Steinway piano M-13 - "From RVB14E18. This tune is brooding, introspective counterpoint to the upbeat and exuberant Red Rockets. Again, Miles and I wrote and recorded the vocals here in Seattle over a long weekend, and then the demo was sent for the cast to record in Austin under Miles' direction. We'd agreed early on that we wouldn't tune any of the vocals to keep everything authentic. It's a challenge for any actor to sing in character, and because ballads are brutally unforgiving, Burnie Burns probably had the toughest job of anyone involved in the musical. Much of blue team is also featured in the tune: Jason Saldaña, Joel Heyman, Yomary Cruz, and Matt Hullum as Doc." Credits: (Audy-Rowland/Luna) Nico Audy-Rowland: Fender Telecaster Deluxe, Danelectro baritone guitar Violet Heart: PRS guitar, Steinway piano Lauren Urban: Oboe Laura Reed: Strings Steve Scully: Drums M-14 - "From RVB14E18. After writing and recording demos for the first three songs for the Musical episode, Miles and I ran out of time as he had to fly back to Austin. We nevertheless agreed on a basic concept of a groovy "dance" song as the resolution / finale for the episode, and I played him a basic demo in the car on the way to Seatac. Plan D went through many iterations and revisions and was a great learning experience in remote collaboration. On the early versions, we were erring on "aloof", "cool", "ambient", almost "melancholy", but weren't hitting the groovy notes. This was my fault, because the subdivisions I was hearing in my head hadn't been recorded... yet. Once Mr. Goulart played and recorded the percussion instruments everyone was on the same page. Meredith Hagan provided the template vocals that were used to help situate Yomary's vocals, Violet played the sad piano, funky rhythm guitars, and searing four-part leads at the end, and I turned Laura Reed into a 70s strings section." This [is] our original pass for the Meta vs Carolina fight sequence. It is different enough from the final version ("Slingshot") that we thought we'd include it. It's an interesting little study on the difference that drums can make on the same track."
