Notes

Best of Hyde209 Vol 1 was such a success I wanted to make Vol 2 as well. All tracks are remastered remixes that I first recoreded back in 2011. This album is my way of sharing my love for video game music with both new fans and those of you who've been with me from the begining. Some time this winter I'll release Vol 3 so stay tuned. I hope you'll enjoy this album. If you do, please check out my other VGM albums too.

- Track information -

01. Sky Castle (Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle)

Source(s): Sky Castle
Game: Alexx Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Composer(s): Tarnya

Track notes: This track is played in the last level of Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle on SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis.

Hyde209 notes: Back to this 16-Bit SEGA classic =D
My last Alex Kidd remix was a cheerful and easy going tune.
This time I wanted to explore that dark and mysterous place I remember from my childhood.
Back then sky castle was to me a pretty scary place. Not only was it a maze full of challenges to overcome, but imagine the anticlimax for me as a 7 year old to finaly face Ashra and and get my butt kicked in a game of rock paper scissors.
The disappointment was total =(
I still remember the joy when my big brother finaly beat the game. Those were the days =)

02. Victorian Fear (CastleVania Portrait of Ruin)

Source(s): Victorian Fear
Game: Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
Composer(s): ???

Track notes: This track is played in one of the first stages of CastleVania Portrait of Ruin on Nintendo DS.

Hyde209 notes: This remix is a request from LordXsi.
It's such a great tune to begin with, I have no idea why I didn't get the idea myself.
Anyhow, kudos to LodXsi for asking me to remix it ^^
It was also a great opportunity to test a new VST plug I bought
from Syntheway called Magnus Choir.

03. Rainbow Cemetery (CastleVania Symphony of the Night)

Source(s): Rainbow Cemetery
Game: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Composer(s): Michiru Yamane

Track notes: This track is played in the subterainan area of CastleVania Symphony of the Night on Playstation 1 and SEGA Saturn.

Hyde209 notes: More Castlevania...YEAH!
I wanted to make an epic, dark, heavy and mysterous Castlevania remix.
This song has always reminded me of MUSE, maybe it's the epic piano parts.
Anyway, the similarity to MUSE might just be the reason why I chose it =D

04. Headless (Decap Attack)

Source(s): ???
Game: Decap Attack
Composer(s): Fumito Tamayama

Track notes: This track is played in quite a few levels of Decap Attack on SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis.

Hyde209 notes: This awesome tune comes from a somewhat forgotten SEGA classic.
I love the 80s cartoon horror style in this game. it's soo RAD!
With this remix I had no special idea eccept I wanted it to be heavy on the bass.
The Clean guitar parts came out pretty sweet =D

05. Ninja Training (Donald Duck in Maui Mallard)

Source(s): Stage 2 - Ninja Training Grounds
Game: Donald Duck in Maui Mallard
Composer(s): Michael Giacchino

Track notes: This track is played in the second stage of Donald Duck in Maui Mallard on SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis.

Hyde209 notes: One of my all time favorite SEGA games. It's hard but well worth the while.
I used to play this game all the time during my summer hollidays in the late 90s.
Good times.

06. Ancient Ruins (ELF)

Source(s): ???
Game: Elf
Composer(s): Matthew Cannon

Track notes: This track is played in the second stage of ELF on the Commodore Amiga.

Hyde209 notes: When I grew up I played Nintendo SEGA and one other platform. Amiga 500.
Elf was one of my favorite Amiga games back then. I played Amiga a lot =D
This game is sort'a like Megaman with an RPG twist you might say.

07. Khazâd ai-mênu (Faxanadu)

Source(s): ???
Game: Faxanadu
Composer(s): ???

Track notes: This track is played in one of the last areas of Faxanadu on the NES.

Hyde209 notes: This remix was requested by nozoto.
"Khazâd ai-mênu" means "The Dwarves are upon you" in Khuzdul,
the fictional dwarf language that Tolkien invented. I thought it sounded pretty cool.
I've wanted to remix this song before, but havn't done so until now.

08. Village of Decay and Destruction (Ghouls 'n Ghosts)

Source(s): Level 2, The Village of Decay and Destruction
Game: Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Composer(s): Tamayo Kawamoto

Track notes: This track is played in the second level of Ghouls 'n Ghosts on Arcade & SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis.

Hyde209 notes: This remix is a requested by FinalGamerJames.
I've thought about doing a remix of this tune for about half a year or so.
I just wasn't sure of what sound I wanted. The original song sounds a bit like
traditional folk or medieval music. That's why I used mainly flute and different
string instruments. But no Hyde209 remix is complete without regular drums and a fat, funky bass as foundation.

09. Hectic City (Gumshoe)

Source(s): ???
Game: Gumshoe
Composer(s): ???

Track notes: This track with intro is played in the first level of the Zapper game Gumshoe on the NES.

Hyde209 notes: I used to hangout at my neighbour playing this game as a kid.
To this day there's no game quite like it. Both the style and the concept it pretty cool and unique.
It's a bit short, but then it's pretty hard too.
I really enjoyed making the noir-esq intro and outro for this remix.

10. Rhythmic Hallucination (The King of Fighters 97)

Source(s): ???
Game: The King of Fighters '97
Composer(s): Shinsekai Gakkyoku Zatsugidan (SHA-V, SHIMIZM, JOJOUHA-KITAPY, YAMAPY-1, TATE-NORIO, ACKEY, KYO-CHAN, ZOE, MARIMO)

Track notes: This track is played as the theme for Team Orochi in The King of Fighters 97 on the Neo Geo.

Hyde209 notes: This remix was requested by DarkwingGeese.
My first SNK remix. I've though about doing a Metal Slug remix before, but SNK has more awesome music to offer.
Kudos to DarkwingGeese for the request. With this remix I stuck mostly to the original arrangment,
but added a few new things and gave it my own special touch.
I suck at this game by the way =(

11. Beyond Space (Mass Effect)

Source(s): ???
Game: Mass Effect
Composer(s): ???

Track notes: This track is played in the space map in Mass Effect for Xbox, Playstation 3, PC.

Hyde209 notes: This tune was requested by Syanso89.
I'm glad I got the request beacuse I'm a big fan of the Mass Effect games.
Plus I really like this tune.
I kept most of the original arrangment, but added drums and guitar.
It was also a nice opportunity to play some flute.

12. Armory (Mortal Kombat 2)

Source(s): The Armory
Game: Mortal Kombat II
Composer(s): Dan Forden

Track notes: This track is played in the armory level of Mortal Kombat 2 on Arcade and on all conversions of that game.

Hyde209 notes: A few days ago I heard the remix from the Armory stage in the new MK game.
I was so blown away by it that I had to make my own version of that remix.
As suggested in the video title this is more of a cover than a remix.

13. Viper Pit (Rollergames)

Source(s): ???
Game: Rollergames
Composer(s): Suzuki (Katsuhiko Suzuki), Matsuo (Shigemasa Matsuo), Fujio (Atsushi Fujio) & Hanzawa (Norio Hanzawa)

Track notes: This track is played in the last level just before the final boss of Rollergames on the NES.

Hyde209 notes: This was one tough song to remix. The difficulty lies in the 7/8 rhythm.
But I like odd beats and it's such a cool song so I had to remix it.

14. Temple (Shantae)

Source(s): ???
Game: Shantae
Composer(s): Jake Kaufman

Track notes: This track is played in some of the temples of Shantae on the Gameyboy Color.

Hyde209 notes: This particular song was my the first remix I uploaded here on YouTube about one and a half year ago.
Since I like the song soo much I thought I had to re-remix it in a completely different fashion.
My earlier version had a somewhat more acoustic feeling.
In this version I when all in with synth, guitar and even melodica.

15. Izayoi (Shinobi 3 Retrun fo the Ninja Master)

Source(s): Izayoi
Game: Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Composer(s): Masayuki Nagao, Hirofumi Murasaki & Morihiko Akiyama

Track notes: This track is played in one of the later stages of Shinobi 3 Retrun fo the Ninja Master on SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis.

Hyde209 notes: One of the best platformer games on Mega Drive (Genesis).
I sticked pretty much to the original arrangment with this remix.

16. Emerald Hill (Sonic the Hedgehog 2)

Source(s): Emerald Hill Zone
Game: Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Composer(s): Masato Nakamura

Track notes: Ths track is played in the frist level of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis.

Hyde209 notes: This remix was requested by Powershade117.
A true SEGA classic by all standards.
I liked the 70s disco/funk feeling of the original, that's why I used wah guitars and congas.
But no remix is qute Hyde209 without some synth and a groovy bass =D

17. Elusive Prisoner (Street Fighter Alpha 3)

Source(s): Stripes —Theme of CODY—
Game: Street Fighter Alpha 3
Composer(s): Yuki Iwai

Track notes: This track is played as Cody's theme in Street Fighter Alpha 3 on Arcade.

Hyde209 notes: This remix is a request done by FinalGamerJames.
When I first listened to the original I though it somehow reminded me of Rage Against the Machine. Since I really like RATM that's the vibe I wanted to get across with my remix. I slowed the tempo and tweaked the main riff to get the right kind of groove. However, I kept most of the original structure with some fairly small and simple rearrangments.
Kudos to FinalGamerJames for the request.

18. Executive (System Shock)

Source(s): ???
Game: System Shock
Composer(s): Greg LoPiccolo

Track notes: This track is played in the executive area of System Shock on PC/Mac.

Hyde209 notes: A friend of mine played this song to me a few days ago.
I'm not all that familiar with the game, but the music is pretty cool.
That's why I decided to make this remix.

19. Ya Wolf Man (Werewolf the Last Warrior)

Source(s): ???
Game: Werewolf: The Last Warrior
Composer(s): S. Sakai (Shogo Sakai), T. Miura (Takafumi Miura) & Y. Takahama (Yusuke Takahama)

Track notes: This track is played during the fight with the wierd bulky wrestler guy in Werewolf the Last Warrior on the NES.

Hyde209 notes: This is my first attempt at recording reggae music, and my first attempt at adding lyrics to a video game remix.
All lyrics comes from in-game text messages. it was a lot of fun playing around with this short and simple tune.

20. Magician's Hallway (World of Illusion)

Source(s): Final Level
Game: World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
Composer(s): Lotty (Haruyo Oguro) & Maguro (Tomoko Sasaki)

Track notes: This track is played in the last stage of World of Illusion on SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis.

Hyde209 notes: i did this as a request by FinalGamerJames. Cheers to you mate for giving me the idea. The remix came out a whole lot better than I thought it would.
As always I love 3/4 rhythm.
