Notes

"Notes floated out of her mind.

It wasn’t the melody that nagged at her. It was the sense of home she had long forgotten.

As the tune circled through her head, a planet drifted into view. It spun, surrounded by a ring of white clouds and dust. ROBOGIRL exhaled, drawing a heart around this planet in her window. If she couldn’t go home, could she bring a little of it here?

The only sound inside her ship was a gentle, constant whir. But the rhythm didn’t come from her starburst engines, her gravity transducer or her energy array. It was the happy purring of Robopup, nuzzled as ever on her metal lap.

"Good boy", she whispered. Pup lovingly licked her hands.

The song of her homeworld was written there, tattooed in silver ink - note by note, finger by finger. As she rapped her knuckles on the window, tip-tapping to the rhythm of her anthem, a vision of her past glided into her mind.

At long last, she remembered..."
