American film composer and orchestrator. He moved to Hollywood in the 1930s to work as a composer and orchestrator, before joining The Walt Disney Studios in 1937. In 1945 he left the Studios, but rejoined in 1951. During this six-year period away from Disney, he worked at other studios, including Paramount, Universal and MGM.

Best known for his work for Walt Disney, including Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambi, among others.
