Let your actions speak for yourself. Don't come up with such "silly" things as petitions: why would... Or rather, should others vouch for you?
It is my understanding that you once were a "Trusted Editor", or part of a group with added privileges. You earned such thing once, I guess you could do it again, without any... External input.
