Rage Racer, a Ridge Racer series entry on the PlayStation 1, did not have an official soundtrack release. What it did have on the game disc were seventeen redbook (CD-player-playable) tracks comprising the bulk of the game's music. There were three songs only available through gameplay (one PCM and two featured in streaming movies), but the real meat was there for the listening--right on the game disc. Other titles with the music on the game disc still received separate soundtrack releases though, often with extended plays, arrangements, or even remixes of the songs from the game. It would have been nice to see Rage get similar treatment, but back in 1997 I didn't care. It was just great to have the music for a game I loved right there--no sound test necessary!
