Cool Audio: Blu-ray vs CD questions

So as a basic question whats the significance of Blu-ray audio for OST's?

For example Square-Enix seems to like releasing their high profile games on blu-ray audio, but when taking the files off the disc for general playback on a PC it looks like the compressed ZIP folder is MP3's at around 300kbps...

less then ideal for an audiophile so am I missing something here or is Blu-ray audio just a higher priced gimmick with lower fidelity audio? If so then why often pack these releases with exclusive bonus tracks (like Final Fantasy 15 Limited Edition)

Thanks in advance for your input!
