Found another Darkstalkers music sample. The strings in the first two games are from the Protues/2. Same as the flute in said games. It's a patch that combines two samples, which explains why I didn't recognize it earlier when simply going through the raw samples themselves.

Was an interesting case of serendipity, too. After noting that SynthMania had added a new page on the Proteus/2, I opened my library of the same machine on a whim and just clicked around a bit, happened to click on the "Concerto" patch, and then just happened to randomly click the same note that the Darkstalkers sample is stored at in the game's RAW PCM data (which I have ripped for comparison purposes, and thus have listened to a lot). And it just clicked. "That sounds awfully familiar".
