The artist linking system is too complicated to come up with a clean way for staff to view, manage, and revert individual changes. In order to be able to create and modify links, you also need to be able to delete links, and we definitely don't want to put deletion in the hands of the general public because it creates headaches to clean up the mess.
That's really all it is. All those other edits that are open to anyone are simple additions or replacements. Easier to fix when someone makes a mistake.
