I may have come a little late in this thread, but I have to ask something. Well, I know that very literal translations are looked down upon (even if for no other reason than the fact that some things don't have the same meaning when said that exact way in a different language), but are we seriously transforming kana now? I mean I'm all for taking the meaning of a kanji and saying "okay, they were trying to say this", but taking a kana and changing it is like... practically taking English and changing it.

メカ is "meka". Which is really "mecha". Are we serious with "mechanical"? The important part is that with kana, they could have said that if they wanted to. And I know this isn't an official localization, because even the official localization is Mecha Bowser.
