I liked the Playstation Final Fantasy 2 music a lot, although that had the additional boss themes that the original lacked. I only just started on 3 and have not compared them. In the DS version, at least, some of those tracks definitely seem like they should be expanded or swapped around some more. That "victorious" tune that plays in EVERY town after you do it a favor needs more work if it is going to be heard that often. Maybe for casual listening it works better. I definitely presumed it was a different group of people on the music.

Now I have heard both and thought about it. I think the DS music is just fine; I like a number of tracks better than the NES versions, especially the more melancholy sounding ones, which the nes sound programmer never seemed to know what to do with. The DS game itself just put me in an underwhelmed and frustrated state.
