I'm curious about the composition credit to Nazo^2 on this one. Does the CD actually list him somewhere?

The reason I'm asking is because

the game credits give composition to Katsuhiko Suzuki, Yasuko, Kouji, Aki (probably Aki Hata), and NON. JGML and GMCL corroborate Nazo^2 composing, while the game credits only say he was the sound producer. GMCL gives "K. Suzuki" as an alias for him, so his name might be Katsuhiko Suzuki. That would be very interesting.

Huh, I didn't even realise there was a Dynamite Headdy OST released. Nice.

For what it's worth, project2612's VGM set credits Kazuo Hanzawa (NON), Jun Irie and Hideki Matsutake, and I don't think those latter two names correlate with any of the names you listed, do they? Wonder where they got their credits from. In any event, I'd be surprised if Hanzawa didn't have a significant role on this soundtrack.

Yeah, I've had issues with some of Project 2612's credits in the past. That's probably the worst one of the lot. No idea at all where Irie's and Matsutake's names came from on that one. None of the names in DH's credits are aliases for them, as far as I know.

Found this page, which apparently contains the Japanese credits to Dynamite Headdy. Not sure how accurate they are, but the names match up pretty well with the English credits. Music composers are:
  • ネンレイフショウ SUZUKI (Nenreifushou Suzuki, GMCL says this is an alias for Nazo^2)
  • オンセン YASUKO (Onsen Yasuko, unknown)
  • レベッカ KOUJI (Rebecca Kouji, unknown; Rebecca is the Japanese version of the miniboss in the stage Terminate Her Too (the BGM for this stage is one of the best Genesis tracks ever))
  • Fカップ AKI (F-Cup Aki, GMCL says Aki Hata, who I guessed earlier because she's done music for a couple other Treasure games)
  • ボックス NON (Box NON, like there was any doubt Hanzawa did music for this game)
So that pretty much backs up the English credits. Katsuhiko Suzuki definitely looks like it's at the very least another alias for Nazo^2 Suzuki, if not his real name.

EDIT: Treasure has a page for the album, giving credits for the two vocal tracks at the start of the album, which gives original composition of HEADDY THE HERO to Nazo^2. The rest of the BGM composition is just given to "Nazo2 Unit" (except for #31, which is March from The Nutcracker)

Well that answers who "Kouji" is. Thanks.

Still don't know who "Yasuko" is. Credited in the thanks section of the album as "Yamayasu," could be Yasuko Yamada, but I didn't know she did anything on the Genesis, especially something for a company other than Taito.

Wow, I was completely sure that SOUTH TOWN'S THEME was Nazo²'s (or NON's, but Nazo first guess). Although he did the sound programming and some unspecified amount of arrangement, so that might explain why I got his sound from it.

STT is one of my absolute favorite Genesis tunes ever (top three). I already thought highly of Aki Hata; I'm glad my respect was completely justified.

i wonder if she would be receptive to requests for full composer breakdowns if she can even remember now. i thought she composed much more for this soundtrack, honestly. i don't recognise as much NON as i first thought i did (hustle maruyama sticks out but...), i guess most is nazo2's or the other guys.

Yeah, I don't hear much NON influence either. "Maruyama Appears", "Hustle Maruyama" & "Funny Angry" spring to mind. Maybe "Crosswalk of Love", but don't quote me on that. I definitely hear a lot of Suzuki more than anything. I was also surprised that Hata didn't play more of an active role.

Is Koji Yamada one of these artists? Or is it a 3rd Koji Yamada?

I have absolutely no idea. As far as I know, neither of those two worked on any Genesis games (except maybe this one), and no other Treasure game includes a Koji Yamada for comparison.

This GMCL offshoot says that the Koji Yamada here is a third guy: http://vgmdb.net/artist/11971. Like the other two, it doesn't look like he has any other Genesis or Treasure games to his name. What's more, I couldn't confirm he's ever worked on a game (some anime work though), so I don't see any reason at the moment to treat this as anything more than speculation. But hey, more possibilities are awesome right.

The one interesting thing about this guy is that he contributed a couple of tracks to Sana's album honey moon, which was produced by Nazo². So maybe they're connected, or maybe that's a big fat coincidence.

Yasuko Yamada fits the "Yamayasu" listed in the special thanks section of this album with the other sound staff, but I kind of doubt it's her because AFAIK she was still at Taito in 1994 (Bubble Memories, which she composed, came out in 1995 or 1996 depending on the source). There are quite a few surnames starting with "Yama" besides Yamada.

I don't have any better ideas, though!

Oh and I posted a little more about Koji Yamada here: https://vgmdb.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8898.

Since Aki Hata showed on her website that she only composed tracks 9 and 30, doesn't that mean that she did not compose tracks 4-8, 10-29, and 32-37? Because in the notes, it still has her listed in that group of composers who did 4-30 and 32-37...

Yea, I was actually gonna remove her, but she WAS apart of the Nazo² Unit, and that's what is being credited there.

Yasuko Yamada is decisively linked to the page http://vgmdb.net/album/28389 for the 2011 Dynamite Headdy Secret Bonus Point tribute album. Should that then also be left vague?

Yeah, good catch. I think that was just an accidental linkup because she's the only suggestion for "Yasuko." Removed her, thanks.

Looks like someone made a mistake in the arrangement credit for track 1. It's being credited on the page to Hideki Matsutake for some reason, but it should be Kimitaka Matsumae (which you can see in the pg. 1-2 scan).
