Exclamation Fake/Counterfeit SUPER MARIO RPG 1995/NTT PSCN-5047~8 CDs?

I have been an avid collector for many years, and I asked one of my good friends and contacts in Japan. He asked around and reportedly their are counterfeit fakes recently flooding the market.

I ordered a cheap/fake? copy for $30 (Legit copies easily sell for $600+) haven't had time to carefully evaluate. Only weird thing is eBay is "flooded" with these ($30-$100) all are "used", appear to be missing OBI and Booklet. The copy I got looked "newly pristine printed" (not 1995 used Vintage like my original). Why even sell it used if it's Pristine???

Does anyone know about this? Sadly, due to life, may take me a few weeks to do a proper analysis (comparing the PCM Data in my Plextor Premium 2 (I paid $1k for it imported for Germany, full C1/C2/CU error comparisons) but that would only tell me the pressing is different. Who knows how many pressings were made? Bootlegs usually have a very high C1 and at times hit C2 error rate (hence playing problems) the really bad ones have some CU (uncorrectable).

For obvious reasons I won't post any eBay links but you can find them very easily.

I noticed that too and thought it was fishy. What I would do is compare the disc and covers with a legit scan or good quality photos. Especially the disc. And the info at the back of the ring.

Great idea! I can do HQ scans esp. of the actual disc, didn't think about the ring.

I'll try ASAP, very busy - but now that you have an easier solution (rather than rip the disc) I will give it a try and post the images.

Thanks.

the disc scans we have are a good starting point , check the ring maybe? i think replicating that part is hard.

The colors are also off on the boot. I saw a comparison on a forum somewhere a few months ago.

This jpn blog is documenting fake/counterfeit/bootlegs that pop up on Y!J, Mercari etc..
Some of these end up in the west on eBay as that current batch of Mario RPGs.
