I didn't know about this release until a few days ago. Apparently the raw NES hardware recording that Ship to Shore PhonoCo commissioned from me for their vinyl release was used for the Ufouria portion of the CD, just with the slightest eq curve applied. No real mastering to speak of. Not entirely how I would have liked to see my work used, but I guess I didn't really have a choice here...

How would you have mastered (or not mastered) this? I am under the impression that many raw chiptune recordings usually sound fine as is with only slight noise/hum removal.

On another note: this says "Ufouria" but the characters shown here are unchanged from Hebereke. Did they revert the characters back?

This is because Ufouria 2 uses the Hebereke characters instead of the localized Ufouria ones. Also, Bop Louie and Freeon-Leon appear there as easter eggs.

At the very least, I would have liked to see at least some volume boost. My raw recordings were made with approximately 6db of headroom, and that wasn't touched for this release. The first half of this CD is significantly quieter than the second as a result.

Interesting that this release's Japanese counterpart doesn't appear to use the same recordings (a friend told me that it's identical to SUNSOFT MUSIC COLLECTION Vol.3 plus a newly recorded jingle).
