WHOOOOO-HOOOO!

FINALLY! This is a game that REALLY warranted a soundtrack album. It's one of the best soundtracks in the ZELDA series IMO. I cannot tell you all how thrilled I am to hear about this game finally getting the soundtrack it deserves. That it's by Nippon Columbia, who did such a great job issuing Breath of the Wild and Link's Awakening on CD makes it even better. I expect nothing less than excellence on their part.

Oh this is some amazing news!

Has it leaked a bit early (like the Animal Crossing New Horizons soundtrack did ?) ? I can't find anything about it elsewhere.

I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! no real surprise that it's Nippon Columbia, as they did marvelous jobs with recent Zelda soundtracks.

Finally, after all these years ... thank you, Nintendo.

Oh yes, their work on Zelda has been absolutely terrific. They have done such an incredible job — including ALL the music tracks without cutting any corners (like Pony Canyon and JVC did with their Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask soundtracks, respectively, but omitting certain passages from tracks in favor of having them loop once, and Symphony No. 5, whose Twilight Princess HD soundtrack release was incredibly disappointing and incomplete. Scitron did good with Wind Waker, minus the composer list). Their Breath of the Wild release was fantastic. The liner note booklet, musician credits, composer crediting, music cue identifying... all of that is excellent.

Their Link's Awakening soundtrack is just as excellent IMO. The composer crediting, again, is very commendable. Only negative: missing liner notes, but the composer crediting, presentation, etc., all of that was excellent.

I hope Skyward Sword's soundtrack lives up to their past efforts.

Finally, after all this time, I get to listen to Faron Woods in 44.1kHz! Glad to finally be able to get this as a CD release. The game's audio is so poor at 32kHz.

Is there a sound test in the game with track titles? Or are the track titles all around YouTube just fan names?

As with most rips, it's just fan titles based on where it plays in the game.

There is no in-game sound test in Skyward Sword. Even with the release of this soundtrack, there will still be no official English track titles.

So I've decided to take a crack at translating this track list. Granted, I don't know Japanese, so I'm basically working with Google Translate here, and I'm also relying heavily on the game's text dump to get the localizations right. As such, this list is more localized than overly literal.

Source: Will graduate in Japanese studies soon (it's a party...). Cross-referenced with the English text dump, so this is a localised track list. Ignored some of the spaces. By 3-04 I was starting to think not all of these were meant to be.

Notes:
1-03: Alternatively: "Select a File" as displayed in the English version.
1-10: When Zelda pushes Link off Skyloft and his Loftwing doesn't come. A more direct translation would be "Oh no!!"
1-13: ときめき refers to a throbbing heart when excited or having a crush on someone.
2-13: Alternatively "The Demon Lord: Ghirahim" when acknowledging the space.
4-23: Alternatively "The Great Spirit of the Skies: Battle with Levias" when acknowledging the space.
4-24: Alternatively "The Ocular Parasite: Battle with Bilocyte" when acknowledging the space.
2-05, 2-07: Hard to accurately translate without knowing the tracks associated with the titles.

@Rew: If you have problems understanding Japanese, you can always use DeepL. Google Translate is trash. It really shouldn't be used anymore, especially for Japanese.

There is one track on the list that seems to be missing, and that is the "Isle of Songs." I hope that track was not accidentally omitted.

I'm not sure why you assume it's missing. It probably just has a unique track name.

That song actually plays for the first time on the Isle of the Goddess on Skyloft, so it's most likely track 2.18.

And small note aside about the translation proposed by Rew : I think "Premonition" would fit better than "Prophecy" (meaning-wise) for tracks 1.05, 1.24 and 2.02. I'm not a native english speaker though so I might be wrong!

Ohhh, of course! I forgot about that. I had made a rip of the soundtrack too because I'm such a huge fan of this music and I pretty much know every cue that counts, but I wanted to make sure nothing was missing from here. (Not that I doubt Columbia; they've been doing spectacular work lately.) More intriguing is the potential of seeing who composed what. That was one of the things I was so annoyed about with the releases of WindWaker and Twilight Princess. They didn't tell you who composed what.

So I noticed an English version of the tracklist was never added, so I went ahead and did so--based on zierts' and others' suggestions.

How is it that the track times are available now? The album is not even out yet. Also, the composer information--where'd it come from?

Cross-referencing the old rip with composer credits stream is over

Some surprises, but many of my guesses were correct. Some solid comments from other contributors too.

(The doc is now re-opened for comments)

@Jormungand Since you wondered about the 作曲 tag on Yodobashi: all other Nintendo soundtracks released by Columbia have a generic "Music by" credit in the booklet. Shops like Yodobashi have to translate "Music by" to 作曲 due to limitations on the types of tags allowed. That's all there is to it, and that's why it's corrected on our page for the soundtrack.

Bonus points for still using Winamp in this day and age.

But can I say that Nintendo albums can be a bit strange when it comes to composition and arrangement credits? I don't get why they would credit Koji Kondo for 1-33 "Inside a House" (seeing how he did the original one for Ocarina of Time but most likely didn't contribute to the Skyward Sword arrangement), yet not for things like 1-03 "File Selection" or 5-37 "Treasure Chest" which would certainly fall into the same category. Odd. Any ideas as to why that is?

Also compare this to the Twilight Princess HD Sound Selection which is just as coy about whether Koji Kondo actually worked on the Twilight Princess tracks or if he was just the original composer for earlier games (though it credits him much more consistently for arranged music). There, we have at least one instance in which he participated as lyricist at the very least, but we don't know if he also composed/arranged the "Title Theme" in collaboration with Toru Minegishi. Or, if Koji Kondo did the entire thing and Toru Minegishi is only credited for the use of "Midna's Theme" at its end.

I see, thank you for the explanation. So the presumption is that the Skyward Sword booklet will again use the same credit.

Some surprises, but many of my guesses were correct. Some solid comments from other contributors too.

(The doc is now re-opened for comments)
Haha, I feel 100% the same with regard to it feeling like Christmas morning. Any time this sort of thing happens, to be honest! I instantly went down my local copy and cross-referenced all of my guesses/updated tags, and wasn't correct in quite a few places, predictably. I was better at guessing Shiho Fujii's songs than the other guys, though even with her, some things I thought were her's were Wakai (e.g. Bazaar, most of the jingles), and she also wrote some songs I didn't pick up on (Loftwing Training theme, Girahnim battles?!??! etc.) Looking forwards to listening to these songs in the highest fidelity in future.

It's a shame Hama hasn't done more work with Nintendo. I remember being somewhat disappointed by the soundtrack when I first played the game, but Hama's tracks always stood out to me.

Ghirahim stuff was the biggest shock. That battle theme is so good!

Looking over her contribution, it seems she her role was almost entirely delegated to field/dungeon music. And only one battle theme? (her interview suggests multiple).

Just as expected, the Columbia release has extensive credits on who performed the instruments. Given the name of the engineer, I can assume the music was probably recorded at Avaco Creative Studio, since the person in question also engineered the music for Ni No Kuni II, which was done at the same facility.
