Default Huge "Game Music Composers Meeting" roundtable discussion hosted by Noisycroak

Here's a HUGE multipage article featuring round-table discussion with many prominent Japanese composers, that was hosted by Noisycroak in June '09.

http://www.noisycroak.co.jp/gmcm/jp/

Attending were Hidenori Shoji, Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, Nobuyoshi Sano, Shinji Hosoe, Masato Koda, Yasunori Mitsuda, Takayuki Nakamura, Keisuki Itou, etc..

It'd be a pretty huge job to translate the whole thing, but maybe someone can read and see if there's any highlights or interesting tidbits to share with us.

(did Takayuki Nakamura end up with the little golden cup statue for "MVC" Most Valuable Composer on the 3rd page?)

I too am interested in this. Also...Darn you Google Translate! It has made me look bad on more then one occasion ("Awesome" translated to Japanese = "Terrible"?).

What is "the box" that people are supposed to think outside of anyway? Hmm. Maybe it's similar to the Borg from Star Trek who dwelled as a collective hive-mind within a...box/cube. Those that deviated from this hive-mind would, in effect, be thinking outside of the box. it has both a figurative and a literal meaning.

1up chose the Western vs. Eastern part to translate, probably because it's trendy to report something controversial:

Oh, this was even printed up in Famitsu magazine?

Even though he probably spent a couple hundred bucks on the nice dinner and all the drinks for the whole group, overall it was a great idea by Hideki Sakamoto to put this "event" together. It was about 6 hours long according to Nakamura's blog, so I imagine even the Famitsu version was fairly edited and truncated.

It managed to generate a lot of press and further interest, so by all means this was a successful quick boost for everyone, and was worth it's price in drinks.

This is very informative and quite funny as well, so MEGA THANKS to Chris Ling for his time and effort put into making the English Transcript available to read.

The best part is Mitsuyoshi booing at the announcement of Nakamura as MVC

Quote:
-: The MVC is…………… Takayuki Nakamura!

Everyone: Yeah!

Mitsuyoshi: What?! Boo!

If that was the best part, you must have been asleep during the rest of the article. =)

Thanks, Arcubalis, for the complete translation! Aside from just an interesting read, I think it's going to be funny.
