Hello all,

ACK ACK ACK HECK HECK HECK ARGH ARGH ARGH! I accidentally bought a bootleg-- dangit Aotearoa ;-<--->. The album was 'Mario and Zelda Big Band Live CD'-- http://www.vgmdb.net/db/albums.php?id=410. The bootleg has the catalog number 'KO-99119.' Googling this catalog number brought up two sites which nearly confirm 100% that it is indeed a Taiwanese bootleg...:

http://www.discogs.com/release/517287

http://www.cmdstore.com/4713235111194.html

After vowing never to bow bootlegs again I was tricked. The Ebay seller, 'cinvosfois,' had no prior selling history. He was selling discs only with a starting bid of US$0.99, and I was not aware that this album was widespread enough to be bootlegged (although I do know about the 3 Zelda Ocarina of time CDs commonly bootlegged by Ever Anime). I decided to be nice and to trust him. I have sent him a message regarding this item, and have told him that if he continues to sell bootlegs I will report him to Ebay.

My intention in buying the disc only was to be able to rip FLAC files from it onto my computer, as I plan on buying the full genuine album at the end of May of 2008 next month, and I want to keep it sealed when I get it.

I feel so stupid, so if one of the admins (like Secret Squirrel, Teioh, etc.) could put this into the database as a bootleg that would be great... it would help people to avoid making the same mistake as I did. From now on I am not buying any VGM albums unless if I Know for sure that it has a genuine catalog number. I don't even want to use this stupid worthless 'coaster disc' to rip FLAC files from.

If anyone wants scans of the disc and/or any info on how it plays just reply to my post or PM me or email me, as I'd be ahppy to privde them.

That sucks
Haven't heard of this K-O Records before, thanks for the alert. Discogs has some decent scans of the covers, but if you could provide some bigger ones (especially the portions that would most likely differ with the authentic release) that'll be great.

I'd never heard of them before either, but these guys have put out a lot of bootlegs:

Anyway, I added the album as a bootleg. Soon it should start showing up on google when the catalogue number is searched, and will hopefully warn a few more people. It's really a shame there is so much bootlegging.

EDIT -- Hey aotearoa. Could you check the contents to see if you can find a release date and an original price? I couldn't find any of that info online.

Default Disc Scan

All I got was the disc, without any case, liner notes, stickers, obi or extras. A 300 DPI JPEG scan of the disc label is included below (Notice the catalog number and the 'compact disc' logo on the left side, and the absence of any copyright information. Hmmm...)

http://www.crosskoru.com/vgm/KO--99119_disc.jpg

According to Chudah's Corner the 'KO-' prefix belongs to King Records, another typical Taiwanese bootlegger-- http://chudahs-corner.com/reference/...ce=bootleggers .

The seller told me he paid around US$40.00 for it at an unidentified anime shop in San Antonio, Texas. He also told me the 'price seemed right,' since he had bought this sort of stuff before. Also, he or she did apologize to me for selling a bootleg. He/she thought it was a genuine article, apparently because he paid a 'normal genuine' price for it. Maybe I could track down the specific store that sold it?... I mean, how many specialist anime shops could there be in San Antonio, Texas?...

The bootleggers website (if it called even be called a 'website!!!...' I mean, my cat can code better than these scammers!) is at http://www.k-ocd.com . Also, their email address is [email protected] . Heck, maybe we can inform Yahoo and they will be shut down?... How about if we sign them up for some 'free ad-based offers'?... DOS attack anyone? ;-<^--^>.

Its a shame that you got the CD.
I also tried the last time to get one of the reprints of Jun Senoues "Sonic Adventure" OSTs. All I got is a bootleg from Sonic Adventure 2, but I was lucky enough to get a real one from SynSoniq.de. The even sold me a SA2 Vocal CD and gave me a free one without disc (because the original one got lost).

Actually you should ask every time for the catalog-nummer. In my case I thougt that it is one of the reprints that were listed at amazon.jp. But after a very long delay of the shipping I canceled my order.
