So that's it, Nintendo finally did it after all these years ? I can't believe they're actually including the GB soundtrack with it.
Meaning there's still hope for Skyward Sword one day... |

Looks like this is the limited edition version and a standard version with cat# COCX-41125-8 will follow once this sells out.
Says so in the bottom here: https://columbia.jp/prod-info/COCX-41117-20/ |

Wow, amazing! These are really really cool news!
I think it has something to do with the excellent sells of Breath of the Wild (both the game and its soundtrack, which was very well received) and Link's Awakening's sells are pretty amazing as well, so why not making a little extra money, Nintendo may thinking. The inclusion of the Game Boy soundtrack is a very nice addition, after all these years. I almost began to tear while reading this lol. I really hope Nintendo keeps up with this strategy and their collaboration with Nippon Columbia! Last edited by Mac_Tear; Feb 19, 2020 at 01:59 AM. |

How do you fill two discs with Link's Awakening (GB)?

They probably took lessions from Square Enix in how to do that (i.e. you don't).

I preordered within moments of getting the email notice via reddit. Reddit is smart; it tells me about things that I want that I never asked it to tell me about.
I kind of like this stealth drop style of releasing. It's really nice to hear about something and then be able to buy it, rather than hearing and waiting for years.

I never thought I'd live to see the day when Nintendo releases this gem on CD at last. Must get!

I had faith this would happen as soon as I caved and finally bought the 30th anniversary album for the handful of Link's Awakening tracks lol. Was still worth it for the other unreleased handheld stuff at least. Super excited for this as I'm sure many others are. It's already #1 on Amazon.

When I got the message from CDJapan yesterday that there was a new Zelda CD album, I rushed to see what it was, hoping it was Link's Awakening. Really happy when I found out it was.
Really glad they are including the Game Boy music, too, as I've been wanting a full soundtrack release for years. Hopefully, one day we'll get soundtrack releases for the other unreleased Zelda music, like Skyward Sword. Makes me want remakes for the Oracle games even more, too. |

This release is wonderful ! I don't know if my wallet will allow me to buy it though...
Anyway, it would be awesome if we could finally have detailled credits for the original Game Boy soundtrack ! |

I wouldn't hold your breath. Those track credits are probably long lost. Even the Twilight Princess HD soundtrack from a few years ago didn't have track credits.

Oh, that's amazing !! If other Zelda Games such as Skyward Sword, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess or Spirit Tracks could get the same treatment, that would be wonderful ! (Perhaps if Skyward Sword gets re-released...)
So it seams that as expected, Totaka mainly did jingles and small tunes, while Hamano (Ballad of the Wind Fish, First Search, Dungeon Themes, Boss Battle Theme, Last Boss Theme, etc) and Ishikawa (Mabe Village, Mysterious Forest, Field Theme, Tal Tal Heights, etc) have composed the "main" songs ! It's really cool to finally be able to associate names with great songs such as Tal Tal Heights, First Search, or Ballad of the Wind Fish ! |

The liner notes aren't clear (I've typed the notes as they're written) but my hunch is that where two people are credited, the first is the arranger and the second is the original composer of a melody featured within.

But some of them are co-composed by both names (ex : 3.08 is heavily based on Kondo's TLoZ Overworld Theme but has original parts composed by Ishikawa). And there's also the case of some tracks that are definitely arrangements of tracks made by other composers and are only credited with the arranger's name (3.25, 3.30, 4.34, etc...). So, I think it's dangerous to jump into those conclusions. (Sorry if my english is bad, I'm french) |

Well we already have Yuichi Ozaki listed as an arranger because of his Color Dungeon track being an arrangement from the original Legend of Zelda, so by the same logic all the other GB composers should be added as arrangers because of how they reuse other classic tunes.

But I agree, the three of them arranged some of Kondo's tunes (Hamano : 3.03, Ishikawa : 3.08-09, 4.24 & 4.36, Totaka : 4.29-30 & 4.34) so they should be credited as arrangers. Also, does somebody what is the original song composed by Soyo Oka that was arranged by Totaka for 3.27 & 3.38 ? I guess that's a SimCity (SNES) song but I never listened to this soundtrack. |

The same is actually true for "Richard's Villa"; since Prince Richard originates from Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru, the main theme of that game appears referenced in 3.31 (incidentally, Kazumi Totaka made the score for that game as well). Link's Awakening was full of cameos and homages to various other Nintendo properties, so it is natural that the music follows suit as well. |

I noticed there was an actual composer breakdown, or at least, credits were given for disc 3 and 4 so I matched up these songs with their disc 1 and 2 counterparts to get a breakdown for the first two discs as well as the last two. It should be noted that any tracks original to the switch release I credited to Ryo Nagamatsu, while any remaining tracks that didn't have a counterpart, or were extra versions (for example disc 1 "With Marin" versions and some others on disc two), I simply put as "?". All the tracks that I didn't know who to credit to are in bold accompanied by their titles, so take a look and recommend something for them so we can complete this. I'm pretty sure I listed every track and didn't miss any, but if I did let me know.
I'm posting this in hopes of adding it to the game notes section, as well as asking who should be credited for the unknown compositions? I don't have my copy so I can't tell if the tracks (like Tal Tal Heights (Second Half version) or Shadow Battle - Final Form) use compositions from other pieces that could be credited to other composers. I might try to reformat the list so it's nicer to look at/fits in more with the disc 3 & 4 breakdown, but for now I just wanted to post the list and get everyone's opinion on it. Any feedback is welcome. For the new tracks I was thinking to just credit the original composer, while adding Nagamatsu on the end of it as well, but I'm curious as to what others think. Quote:

Also, Enter Name - Hidden BGM ''Zelda'' is an arrangement of the classic Zelda overworld theme, so Kondo should be credited for that track as well. I dunno, I think as great as these official credits look, they appear somewhat incomplete. |

Makes perfect sense, even the name "Mr. Write" seems spot on.
Thanks for clarifying! |

I believe in the original game they both had the same exact music. Nagamatsu just chose to do different arrangements for each for the remake. Same with the different versions of Tal Tal Heights and the "Marin" versions of various other tracks.

Actually you can find tracks for both characters on the Game Boy Version, too.
Mr. Write's House was arranged by Kazumi Totaka, while Christine's House was arranged by Minako Hamano, according to the credits provided with this release. |

I'm looking at the scans and both tracks are actually co-credited to Totaka and Oka, so Hamano had nothing to do with Christine's theme (although it is true that both tracks are slightly different arrangements even in the GB version).

Yes, you're right of course. Not sure how I could overlook the Oka-credit for two tracks. Sorry about the confusion.
