So did this ever get released for general sale anywhere, or is the only way to obtain it through special order to Konamistyle?

Usually, Play-Asia is the place to look for Konamistyle releases for those of us outside Japan, but last time I visited the site, I couldn't find this album listed. It may very well have been a Konamistyle exclusive.

I've seen a few sellers on YJA offering this with the Gradius Rebirth soundtrack and a Gradius clear file, so that was likely a package deal on Konamistyle.

Yes, both were Konamistyle exclusives. I know that Kahori at VGMWorld has ordered me the Remix and the Gradius Rebirth albums, but I'm waiting for Power Dolls Resonance before I actually ship them.

Actually it's available in Japan iTunes store - if you don't mind just the download versions.

iTunes still have DRM-contaminated audio files that're only usable on Apple devices, or have they started dealing in MP3s?

I think they have stopped selling DRM songs for quite some time. You can do whatever you want with the songs now. However, they are never MP3s. They have something better called AACs, but you can always re-encode them to MP3.

Apple sells AAC (MPEG-4 audio/m4a). Old iTunes store stuff was DRM. New iTunes store is DRM-"free" with a header containing your email address. Sure, you can hexedit your information out of the file but it does contain personal information on purchase. They do not sell lossless audio so I shy away from iTunes (not to mention it's an apple product)

This is probably a discussion for elsewhere but eh.

By the way, I think this CD sucks - but if you like heavy bass pumping your ears senseless, this could be a five star disc.
