Has Meguro been announced as the composer? I thought it was Ryota Koduka.

Hmm, that's just what I remember reading a while back. But that might have just been assumptions. I'll remove it for now.
Edit: Yeah, you're right. http://megaten4.jp/sp/information/ Quote:

Is this really the same as the Sound and Art Collection?
I certainly hope the whole soundtrack doesn't fit on what will presumably be a single disc bonus. Last edited by Eirikr; Feb 21, 2013 at 08:14 PM. |

Ryota Koduka has done quite a fine job if the tracks stay at the quality of the 4 website sample tracks for the game.

Ever since hearing the trailer track for the first time I was sold on this thing. A bit surprised it isn't Meguro, but hey looks like he isn't the only one at Atlus who knows how to do good shh-stuff.

On http://www.atlus.com/smt4/purchase.html, there's the first-print-only Limited Edition Box Set, which contains an art book and the Shin Megami Tensei Music Collection CD "that offers tracks specially selected from across the 20-plus-year history of the SMT series", and they look exactly the same as those on the picture given for this release.
I think these are two separate albums, probably on the same disc (?). Of the 8-track soundtrack http://megaten4.jp/sp/ reads (Google translation): "Soundtrack (all 8 songs) and complete recording of the music that is produced specifically for promotion of this work has been published, for example, limited teaser site. In addition to that, the medley recorded in pipe organ live only for this offer all four songs BGM of "House of Voodoo," which appeared in the game. It is the only music you do not listen to only here." BTW, on http://megaten4.jp/ and http://www.atlus.com/dragonscrown/ Atlus faddishly calls avatars "twitter icons". Where are those exactly? =) Last edited by DanteLectro; May 4, 2013 at 05:22 AM. |

1) Changed the title: added 'space' to ART COLLECTION, since the final version of the front cover does have it (the disc has it too):
2) Added catalog number: 320891-1 Suruga-ya has it under 320891-4: http://www.suruga-ya.jp/database/120...d9ECh0kWQAAEAA My CD says 320891-1, and it's visible on the Disc scan. So either there are multiple catalog numbers for these CDs out there or Suruga-ya made a mistake/typo/didn't look close enough. 3)Just to put this out there - there's a chance that not all 3 of them are present on this short album. Names of Ryota Koduka (小塚 良太) and Kenichi Tsuchiya (土屋 憲一) are mentioned in liner notes of a booklet, but nothing is said of Toshiki Konishi. Here I made a quick rough scan of those last 2 pages, even if it isn't much help, here it is: Spoiler:

So, summarizing:
this disc contains 8 arranged songs that were used for promoting purposes in trailers, teaser websites and such, and a medley arrange. |

prelude I is based on Title from SMT1 by Tsukasa Masuko.
prelude III is based on Title Loop 1 and Title Loop 2 from SMT III Nocturne by Shoji Meguro, or some earlier tracks from the series that Meguro based his tracks on. hallucination I is based on Law from SMT1 by Tsukasa Masuko. The chorus in overture is based on Law from SMT1 by Tsukasa Masuko. reincarnation is based on Mansion Of Heresy from SMT1 and a separate track of the same name from SMT II, both by Tsukasa Masuko. Kenichi Tsuchiya is credited as sound creator in the Shin Megami Tensei Sound Collection, which represents SMT 1 & 2 (among others), but Tsukasa Masuko is credited as the original composer. Masuko is credited as the sole composer in Shin Megami Tensei LAW DISC/CHAOS DISC (SMT1) and Shin Megami Tensei II Sound Relation. There may be more to find! It seems so, and i hope a full soundtrack will soon follow, with more original material. Last edited by DanteLectro; Jun 18, 2013 at 11:10 AM. |

ah nice! always been a fan of Tsuchiya, who I find to be underrated.

The little blurb above the liner notes says the special ost was handled by the commenters (Tsuchiya and Koduka), so I guess both arranged (they don't really say what they did).
reincarnation uses live organ performed by Tomoyuki Asakawa. prelude II is (evidently) SMT2 title and hallucination II Chaos (from 2 I think) They said a soundtrack will be coming, yay. |

Yes, thanks! hallucination II is indeed based on Chaos, but from the earlier SMT1. In SMT II the Chaos theme is different.

Is the inclusion of Kenichi Tsuchiya and Toshiki Konishi in the composer field of this album only based on this screenshot from the game, or is there an official source that indicates they composed tracks on this album?

|

|

The former. The field previously had only Ryota Koduka, based solely on his being the only person credited as a composer on the SMT4 site.
Based on the liner notes, it sounds like this album doesn't feature work by Konishi, and Koduka and Tsuchiya should be arrangers only because it's all reprises? |

Where are the liner notes? And yes it seems Koduka and Tsuchiya are arrangers on this album but sdds IV sounds original to me. This album, the full score in the game, and the upcoming soundtrack can be very disparate credits-wise. I think we should stick to the official info, however little there is.

MiLO posted pictures of the liner notes, hidden in the spoiler in his second post. undi and Dag summarized the info.

According to this interview, the first track Koduka composed was the title/main theme, which I think (from YT) would be "sdds IV".
There are ~110 tracks btw! So Masuko, Meguro & Koduka would be composers. The liner notes is just a small interview with their impressions. Last edited by Dag; Jun 26, 2013 at 11:22 AM. |

"Reincarnation" also contains Tsuchiya's "Shining Heaven" Cathedral theme from Nocturne and Hidehito Aoki's Neo Jakyou from Majin Tensei.

It wasn't easy finding where these are but i think you're totally right. I didn't mention Cathedral of Shadows Gleaming Sky before because it is stated in Nocturne's notes that it's based on Mansion of Heresy from SMT II, but i don't think that's true anymore, i don't hear it in that.
Now i think reincarnation is built up as this: original intro, 0:49- SMT1, 2:31- SMT II, 4:32- SMT III Nocturne, 6:54- Majin Tensei, original outro. Last edited by DanteLectro; Jun 28, 2013 at 08:48 AM. |

I've never been able to recognize the intro and outro, so I think that sums it up. More difficult is determining if the beginning of "Overture" also contains "Memory Recovery" from II. I think it sounds similar, but it's not like it's complex.
Hopefully the current Index shitstorm won't delay a full soundtrack release. |

Here's the situation. Atlus' fate is currently up in the air. Relevant to VGM, I'd be happy even if they could squeeze out a digital release for IV. It deserves at least that much. |

shame.. as it doesn't seem to be Atlus's fault at all yet they could be affected. if Atlus is to be sold, you would think Square Enix would be the frontrunner.

Sorry I thought this was the American version so I added scans of it. So can someone please delete them. I'll add the American version to the database if it already hasn't been added sorry. I clearly wasn't paying attention.

I liked this soundtrack quite a bit, so I went ahead and asked Kozuka on twitter whether they'd release it or not. It's a pity, but he basically said there are no plans for an official release, at least for now.

You mean Ryota Koduka? No OST? =8-O (let the game ripping begin?)
I think they'll do it business as usual after ATLUS' financial and ownership woes are resolved. Last edited by DanteLectro; Oct 2, 2013 at 08:54 AM. |

That's a tragedy. Still, never say never when it comes to VGM releases.
