This is a fairly huge treasure chest of old information, and I should probably loan it to someone who can read Japanese so we can gather info from it.

It's got stories and interviews with boatloads of people: stage graphic designers (using Sega Digitizer System!), producers, graphics programmers (with lines of PC-88 CODE!), sound chip programmers (more CODE, for NES programming!), arcade cabinet builders (see insides of the Darius Multi-monitor arcade machine)

The 256 page main book is a 1/4th scale republishing of the individual pages of the "Beep: Magazine for Game Kids" so you get Two 2-page spreads on each 1 new page here.

The 128 page secondary book is a full scale 1-1 compilation of what I'm assuming is the "best of" pages culled from all twelve issues.

I'll scan in a few pages to show what I mean, but I'm guessing there's stuff in here that few people have seen.

Ex1: Here's a page on Sound Programming, showing the code for a Nintendo song and commentary
http://vgmdb.net/db/covers.php?do=view&cover=37846

Ex2: Pics of Namco's Charity X'mas Concert from the Vol.8 Issue, March 1988 (concert must have been 12.25.1987)
http://vgmdb.net/db/covers.php?do=view&cover=37847

Ex3: Sound Programmer Interview about PSG Sound
http://vgmdb.net/db/covers.php?do=view&cover=37848

This is too awesome. We need somebody who can read Japanese to extract the info!

Where does the 'CD' come from in the title? All I got was 'Computer Game Information Magazine' 'Beep' 'Magazine for Game Kids' and 'Reprint' from the front cover.

The spine says 'Beep' 'Reprint' .

What does this mean?

Edit: Also, I take it the track titles are not listed in this book? We have to get them from the flexi discs?

The English title was a liberty description, in case people got confused why a magazine was being added, and to differentiate from the sonosheet listings, being this was quite obscure.

So yes, the English title is off, but it helped for clarity when making the entry at the time.

There is a page where it lists the track titles. I'll make a scan of that page.
(and it shows which Flexi discs are associated with those tracks).

All of the Original sound versions are included in the CD Reprint, but unfortunately, the handful of ARRANGE tracks from their respective Flexi/Sonosheets remain exclusively there.

Yes, I saw that. I've been meticulously scanning this mook, but it's so big it would need it's own premium account if it were to become a PDF online.

What?!

I bought this thinking it had all the flexi exclusives. What's missing that's important?

I'm still having trouble naming this compilation album:

Front says
Quote:
コンピュータゲーム情報誌
BEEP (MAGAZINE FOR GAME KIDS) 復刻版

=Computer Game Information Magazine
BEEP (MAGAZINE FOR GAME KIDS) Reprint
Spine says
Quote:
BEEP 復刻版
2大付録つき!甦る伝説のゲーム誌

=BEEP Reprint
2 Large Appendices! Legendary Revived Game Magazine (or something)
Discs say
Quote:
BEEP
ソノシート復刻盤

=BEEP Flexi Disc Reissue
I'm inclined to go off the discs since the magazine is its own medium and is a 'reprint' of previous magazines. I uploaded higher res scans as well as the spine and back of magazine.

Also belated thanks for the breakdown, Carl! Whenever I get into Digital Devil Story, I'll have to track down that flexi.

Edit: scans related to the CDs
