Do we even know if this one ever existed?

Let's hope Jedi QuestMaster can give his source(s) to make such entry.

Perhaps it was too early for me to post this: I bought this off of a lot consisting of video game (& non-video game) music from somebody in Europe a while ago:
I actually have no idea whether this was a commercial release or not; & (unless someone wants to fill me in) no such CD exists so that's why it's unreleased/cancelled. From the close up pictures, I can tell it's titled "N64 Soundtrack GoldenEye 007" & from the back it lists 2 CDs: The seller said one of these was a 2-Disc set as well. So far all these albums look like they were released in Europe or Japan. I'm not sure about Dio - I have the U.S. version & it looks just like that except it's inside of a sleeve. Anyone notice otherwise? Last edited by Jedi QuestMaster; Mar 31, 2010 at 10:45 AM. |

Interesting.
Would be great if you could scan that Golden Eye album (or give the tracklist) when you receive it. The rest looks very fine to me, pictures are a bit blury but i don't see anything weird. Last edited by Myrkul; Mar 30, 2010 at 06:04 PM. |

Lol, great to see Nintendo Metal in there.
Also interested in a tracklist. Wondering if it's a bootleg, but can't really tell from the pics. |

Curious, the layout of the tracklist from what I can see (which isn't much) closely resembles my tracklist from the line-in recording i did many many years ago... I did end up distributing FLAC files at one point so maybe it's authored from those or USF's if it's not a legit release. I'll dig around for my tracklist to compare.

With pirate original Famicom games, I suppose that's probable. Also, I notice with most/all of Nintendo's promotional releases in Europe, they use that weird cartoony font: http://vgmdb.net/album/6862 So that leads me to believe this either isn't a promotional release, isn't from Nintendo, isn't from Europe, or a combination of those. |

I very seriously doubt that a Goldeneye 007 soundtrack was officially released. The lack of marketing is decidedly suspicious. In other words, given my aggressive nature in hunting down soundtracks, why had I never heard of it?

There was a guy on Ebay that used to sell these. He'd take mp3s from other albums or game rips and burn them to disc, and then make fake artwork and put them up on Ebay. Many of them were listed as multidisc soundtracks for games that never had a release. He'd put those up at $40-$50, and they'd sell quickly. There was a lot of effort at STC to try to get him shut down, but Ebay turns a blind eye when the rights-holders don't complain directly. I think he eventually got busted for something unrelated.

For comparison, here's the tracklist for Jumbo's recording (2nd version)

Plus, if you decide to mess with GoldenEye, you not only mess with Rare; you mess with: -Nintendo -Danjaq -Eon -Britain -the Broccoli's -Monty Norman (maybe John Barry also) -Sean Connery -& the entire League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Yeah, no thank you. Edit: Just received it! Yay! I'll post scans as soon as possible. Edit: Aww, I think it's a bootleg. On the ring of the CD is written "CD BY DISC MAKERS." Anyway, I'll put the scans up. Thanks for posting my tracklist seanne, I forgot to before I left for work. This almost has to be a bootleg though... this was one of my, if not the most sought after game soundtrack of my youth. Norgate and Kirkhope completely nail every track with perfection. I definitely would have heard about a cd release of this.

There's no indication of where this came from. "Arkangelsk" leads me to believe they just went off of the game. Does it say "Arkangelsk" in the PAL version of the game?

Thanks for posting pics up.
I don't know where you got that front cover, but it does not really looks like it was scanned since the pic is so fine (it's clearly perfect) Like you said it, the font used for "music from .." is not the same one used by Rare/Nintendo, but looks like a common Arial or another basic font, and this looks really fan-made. Back scan is not usual too, Rare generally does not set up their copyrights like this. So, i'd say this is not an official release, just a scam. And then i wonder if we should keep the entry.. |

If it's a homemade thing it should be deleted. I guess scans and rips of the discs will help us to know.

Seems like some bootleg (or homemade) album to me, pictures quality doesn't really prove it's a real album...
Personally I find it quite unbelievable that this album suddenly springs outta the blue, like what, more than a decade after the game was released... ? GoldenEye is far from being an obscure title, if such a soundtrack existed it would be known and referenced for years now. |

But wait this is quite possible actually, we had some "old" albums still missing last year, like an Ocarina of Time one I recall. There's also a Mario Kart 64 audio tape that's still unlisted so I would be careful on that. Maybe asking the seller, he might know how he got that album or where it comes from.

I contacted the seller. He said:
April Fools! Damnit! Is that today? I guess I couldn't fool some of you, oh well. Oh &... Quote:
Edit: Okay, you can delete this album now; it's April 2nd over here (& I'm by the Pacific). Anyone? Last edited by Jedi QuestMaster; Apr 1, 2010 at 11:11 PM. |
