I was hoping that that song would stay a single, far, far away from the official soundtrack. Alas, marketing wins again.

Nu Metal is one of the worst musical blights inflicted upon the world.

Haters will hate. I did like that song, and it being included on the soundtrack will make me buy the album.

There's gonna be some pressure put on this soundtrack, because want it or not, it will be compared to previous compositions by Yamaoka.

I'm rather curios to hear Licht's approach to the Silent Hill universe. After all i used to think that Castlevania = Yamane, but then Araujo surprised me with his job on Lords of Shadow.

Personally, i don't think that's the proper thing to do. Please, don't get me wrong, i like Yamaoka's work a lot, but a fact is a fact: Licht is a different guy. It's not really fair to compare them... I'm seriously hoping that those so-called reviewers/opinionists will judge Licht's work for what it will likely be: his work... and leave Akira out of the picture.

It was known since ages that Yamoka wouldn't compose this score.

@ilef: The world isn't fair and we're going to see this comparisons in the reviews. If we like it or not. Fact is that Yamaoka's music style defined a big part of the SH series. Removing him won't be easy for the franchise.

That's really unfortunate.... But then again, as much as human beings might shine for their intelligence, same could be said about their stupidity. What about leaving the past behind and just live the present?

As a reviewer, I think that everything would ideally be judged solely on its own merits, but if a review is to give an account of the reviewer's experience, it might have to include comparison to predecessors. In fact, a lot of readers will want to know exactly what the differences are, and it's important for a reviewer to tell them. That said, one should not judge something harshly as music based on its being different and or ill-suited to the game. Final Fantasy X-2's score is very different from Final Fantasy X's, but it's bad because the music is poorly composed, not because of its style.

That said, based on what I've heard, this is going to be an interesting score. Nothing like Yamaoka, but that doesn't bother me. If it's good, there's not a problem.

Good points, Xenofan.

I'm sorry for the repeated words, but i guess i've finally understood i will never understand how some game music reviewers manage to do what they do. I think of game music as a "mere" supplement to a bigger media (= videogame), as in that particular track got wrote to serve that scene/moment/level... For me a good reviewer shouldn't really judge game music for its "stand-alone listen" merits... Simply because it wasn't created to be listened on its own, in the first place. If it works in-game and it's crap on its own, then it's still a well-written soundtrack, in my humble opinion.

Based on its description, I presume this is track 2:

That sounds pretty damn good... I wish the OST was twos discs, but I'm definitely excited for this, and the game.

Sounds legit and "on topic". I would also hope for the soundtrack to have some heavy stuff like Angel's Thanatos from Silent Hill 2.

Also as a reviewer, I think it's entirely fair to compare artists or soundtracks in a series since the games industry is so focused on rehashing the same franchises over and over again. I think most people who are into game music are mainly into it because they're fans of the games, and of course the game is going to be compared to the titles in that franchise that preceded it, so why not the music given that it's a huge part of that experience?

Amazon now has samples up for every track:

I really like what I'm hearing.

Sounds promising. Not like Yamaoka at all, but thankfully not Zimmer-lite like so many western soundtracks these days. I still think that the Korn song should have been released separately. It has nothing to do with the rest of the soundtrack, stylistically.

Are you sure that the alternate cover belongs solely to the digital version? I'm asking because Amazon.de now lists two physical prints:
Link 1
Link 2

Both are listed as import and physical print. I'm pretty sure Link 1 was the first to appear on Amazon, Link 2 was added later.

I checked amazon Japan, and they do only have the first one as Physical CD, the new one is digital only.
Also seems like this version will be released on march 12 and not may 5 (that was the original date)
