Albums in GMR that aren't in VGMdb
As per this thread, I just did some handy-dandy scripting and compared the vgmdb catalog list against the gmr catalog list. Note that this doesn't account for stuff like "there's a dash instead of a space" or whatever, but it did manage to cut GMR's list of 6500 down to 2145, so I'd say that's significant. As people reply to this thread with updates, I can cut things out of my post so we can see only what's left. Since Kaleb mentioned starting at the top, I'll start with Z and work backwards.
So yeah, if you add any entries as a direct result of this listing, please just post a reply with which ones you've finished adding. Last edited by MrMAGFest; Apr 28, 2008 at 10:31 PM. |

Wow, nice work. That's some impressive scripting. It seems like it might be a pain for you to keep editing the posts though. Perhaps the way to go is to run the script on the server....
There are some issues to keep in mind though:
So, while I think it's great to use this tool to help identify albums we don't have yet, going through from A or Z and adding everything just to match GMR's content is not the best approach to take. I'd much rather see everyone submit at a slower pace, carefully verifying the albums using various sources (most of which will be Japanese), adding original and translated tracklists, tracking down artist information, and including scans from YJA so that we have complete entries instead of a bunch of stubs that we aren't sure about. BTW, Kaleb abandoned the idea of culling GMR from one end. I think it's better to pick a set of albums that you are familiar with. I've been working through some catalogue number runs, but so far I'm only adding stuff that I've got good information on. I'll make a second pass over them later, and cover the missing ones, but that will be much harder work. This script will be useful in finding what I've missed. |

Well, I'm assuming people will follow proper album submitting guidelines and not just submit junk. And I've been pruning the list because I mentioned before the differences in catalog numbers might be present...
In the end, I don't mind editing the posts one bit. My solution was just a quick difference-between-two-text files thing, so I'm counting on other people to just be like "ok, take out everything prefixed with ASDF- it's added" or "remove all the QWER- sets, they're fake" and I'll just do it. Once this list is depleted to zero, we can go by the GMR front page updates to see if we should update or add an album instead, which would be much easier to get through and keep things up to date. This post should definitely only be considered a tool, not law. I plan to go over the list and only work on stuff that has track listings at first, for example. |

I've knocked about 50 off that list in the last couple of weeks (mostly SCDC and KICA). I still think it'd be easier to periodically rerun the script since there can be a lot of changes in the database. One thing we could do to make things easier for you is create a function that prints out all the catalog numbers in a single list.
Another thing you can do is strip off everything after the tilde (~) for comparison. You could also replace all spaces with "-" or vice versa, to catch a few other formatting differences. |

One step ahead of you, blah already wrote the catalog number generator. If GMR did the same thing I wouldn't have to filter their stuff. Dunno if they like that idea, though.
It's not really a program per se, just a set of commands I ran, but I can probably incorporate what I did into a single script with the aforementioned changes. I'll keep you posted. |

This subject is now one year old... and i got a request:
Could anyone (i guess MrMAGFest) update it ? Could you run the "script" you made last year and update the huge cat # list ? I am greatly interested to post what's left from GMR that's not on vgmdb (lots of work remaining, no doubt). I'll try to post as much as i can, and having an up-to-date list will certainly help me. I'll certainly work the list slowly (and randomly, this is how i like to work), going on my rhythm.. i am taking more and more time to verify what i am posting now. I know i am personnaly not linking artists to the database but i hope my work still helps or someone must tell me to stop now. Last edited by Myrkul; May 11, 2009 at 06:48 AM. |

Yeah, I have actually been extremely bad at working on this but I will try to update the list soon. I'm sure there are a lot less that need to be added now.

Actually, I think what would be most useful is a text file containing the raw album data from GMR. I've already got a python script that parses my own personal list, scrapes VGMdb for its album list, and compares the two, so it would be easy to reformat the parsing to match the GMR file.
It seems to me like you're doing a good job adding and verifying all of these obscure albums (many of which nobody here even owns.) |

Thanks for picking this back up, MrMagFest. I dropped it pretty quickly after I got sidetracked by other things. One thing to keep in mind is that there may be albums on GMR that have the same cat# as albums here, but in fact are different albums. I think it would be best to compare on both cat# and title. It might come up with a lot more results than expected, but this way you really know that you do have everything.

The following have been added:
ZTCG-001 ZTCG-002 ZTCG-004 ZTCG-005 ZTCG-006 I couldn't find much info on ZTCG-003 so who knows if that's game related or not. Last edited by seanne; May 31, 2009 at 05:47 AM. |

ZTCG-003 is Zest album for Photo Genic.
(it's a Saturn & PS1 game). I'll add the OST today to the database. |

Ok! I went ahead and pared the list down from Myrkul and seanne's posts. I'm not staff, but awesome work guys.
I will later be doing a little more work on running the list of remaining albums in my posts against the vgmdb catalog list and that'll cut out even more. The old script I had was actually just grabbing urls and trying to cut the catalog number out, and I'm finding out it doesn't really even work quite as expected any more. I'll be taking SS's and Kaleb's suggestions into account and work on a new, hopefully better solution once we've gotten through this dataset. |

I'll try to help out entering some whenever I can... Only thing is I'm so damned lazy for this sort of thing... @.@
Either way, many thanks to Myrkul and everyone else that's adding these to the db. |

PI-01 / PI-02 / PI-03 / PI-Gaiden / PI-MatriMelee -> added as NOIS-00001~5 (I'm 99% sure the PI-x catalogues are unofficial)
PI-5CDSET cancelled > maybe add (cat. is probably unofficial though) FSCA-10012 -> missing cat., but wrong album (anime - Sound Comics F.O.X.) MII-013 -> already added (I'll try update this later as I add stuff to discographies) |

This is an old thread but I wanted to mention I'm trying to find ANY info about the composers/arrangers for PICA-1165, which in fact isn't just an anime disc (of course perfectly fine here now), but apparently contains a couple tracks from the game adaptation. So it doubly should be here, but this thread is the only mention on the site I can find of it. I've gotten completely cold trails trying to find anything beyond track titles and main singers though.

According to their info, the tracks from the game adaptation are 4, 8 and 16. All the rest are from the series/OVA and a couple from a radio show. |
