so, ff iv won't be the only snes ff to get remastered, ff v and ff vi will follow
I'm pretty curious of the final results, because the sample on the site sounds good that could be like that seiken densetsu 2 arrange album except they didn't use that arrange title (maybe sd2 aa shoulda had that title) |

I think the sample is before the remastering (little blurb below the sshots).

I listened to the samples and honestly, they don't sound that different to me. To me they sound the same. I wonder if the remastered sign means better sound quality and a more "complete" release, because the previous one looped all the pieces one time (resulting in the Prelude being cut short) and if you listen closely, one can hear what sounds like slight radio static very subtly inbetween the victory Fanfare tracks all the way up to the Castle Damcyan (mixed very quietly). There were also some missing tracks. To me this rerelease is more like fixing both of those problems instead of giving either soundtrack an upgrade ala the FFIV DS remake.

Sounds good. I'm disappointed in the lack of additional material though. There's close to 50 minutes of extra space here. Could have easily included real unreleased tracks, or at the very minimum, the FFIV Minimum Album stuff. The additional content here amounts to jingles.

Still, this is a much more "complete" release of FFIV than we've ever gotten. The original OST issue, if you remember, only had 44 tracks, most of them looping only once. It didn't even have the jingles you mentioned.

Yeah, I know. It really is cool to have. And that's what I'll end up writing in my review. It's awesome to have this released and for them to take the time to do it right, but I guess they had me expecting more with the whole "unreleased music" bit.

This definitely doesn't give me vibes of the infamous SoM2 Rearrange Album ; not the Secret of Mana + disc, but the one which was only marginally upgraded and had 15 tracks only.

What's this missing then? Only non "jingle" I remember missing from the original was the alternate version of Cry in Sorrow.

Does anyone have an alternative to CDJapan for getting these?

Nothing's "missing," I was just hoping they'd unearthed some early prototypes or tracks that didn't make it in to the game, etc.

Uh oh... they announced there's an error on Disc 2 track 12. Some sound is missing apparently. They're going to do an exchange program apparently. No details yet.

The very beginning of the track is cut off slightly. I doubt there's any way for anyone outside of Japan to actually do this exchange though... gah.

Is there any way for NON-Japanese customers to get involved in this exhange program? I don't wanna receive a copy of this with the first couple of seconds of a track missing!

not sure yet. we'll know more once they set up their exchange program. it was just announced this morning so it'll probably be a week or so... who knows.

Either way it's disappointing that S-E would allow a glitch like this to occur on an album they claim to be "remastered." If they can't even overlook a few omitted seconds then that means they had better be more careful in their subsequent remasterings of FFV and VI.

hey we're all human, we make mistakes... it probably was something discovered too late in the process or something like that... i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was something that was unforeseen.

the benefit of the doubt?
man they got like 2 months or more to make the thing, it's not an excuse |

SQEX won't offer exchanges for disc2 oustide japan, that's a given.
Maybe if all buyers unite, through CDJ, there's a possibility. |

What about YesAsia?

At some point, retailers will only have the fixed version right and people won't need to exchange? Only the people who buy it right away will have to?

who knows? maybe when all the first prints with the amano art box are all gone then we'll know... it's all too early to guess

so if you want the first print with Amano art, you have to take the error. If you want to wait for a second print with the fix, you lose first-print bonuses.
Not a rosy picture for importers. I wonder if maybe people on Y!J will sell copies of the first print with the replaced disc 2 in a couple of weeks...? That's what I'll be watching for! Last edited by Ramza; Jul 8, 2013 at 06:01 AM. |

you get limited with box and the corrected
you throw the defect and replace by the corrected (it's a trap set by s-e) |

Good news, CDJ will do the Disc2 exchange program (and only Disc2, allowing you to keep everything else). ATM they're waiting on more details from SQEX before they start accepting returns. More info as they come.

Yeah, I got my response from CDJ last night, they said they are holding my order until the replacement discs come in and will be doing the replacements that way. I'm currently waiting on a reply to make sure that this doesn't effect my First Press Bonus status, but even if it does I'm not too worried about that.

Also, Alch brought up a good point last night -- admins / editors need to make sure this tracklist doesn't get updated to the wrong track times. I know there's no way to lock an album for edits, but it's all too common that people drop their mp3 track times into the tracklists and that very rarely, if ever, matches the freedb query criteria. I'm somewhat concerned about a constant back and forth scenario where someone updates to wrong track times for the bad disc2, then someone updates track times for the good disc2 and it hops back and forth. Is adding a child album with the bad track times an option? I don't know if we want to open up the database to that kind of redundant (and largely useless) information.

Someone could just make a post here with the tracktimes for the bad version of disc 2. That could help to avoid any circular editing as well.

So what should I do? I ordered my copy from YesAsia. If they're not going to do the exchange, what should I do, cancel my preorder (refund) and go with CDJapan instead?

I would email YesAsia with your order number and ask them how they intend to handle it?
