The music in this box is (almost?) all stuff that was never released before: mostly prototype/demo/unused songs, with some original compositions and previously unreleased game music. So there's only one song from SFC ActRaiser (and it's only 7 seconds long) because that jingle was the only song that wasn't on the 1991 GMO Records soundtrack release.

I wish there was some way to purchase it other than through Beep Shop.

Interesting comments about ActRaiser with Mr. Koshiro and his interviewer I found from the liner notes.
From whatever rough translation I saw, it seems as though Koshiro wasn't proud of his work on ActRaiser 2 for some reason and decided against releasing it on CD for years, but he nonetheless did with this early collection box. I could be wrong, though. |

I'm curious, that 9th disc is only for those who have bought early, and got it with replacement disc?

So I listened to the music from the Game Gear version of The Stickman is Back and noticed most of them ended up in the Game Gear version of Batman Returns. Some tracks from that game aren't included on this compilation, such as the stage 2 theme, so I'm assuming those tracks were Kawashima's. (funny, he was credited as the sole composer yet it seems he did less than Koshiro)
Perhaps 8-bit Batman Returns was originally going to be 8-bit The Stickman is Back? |

Does this really have 10 tracks of unused Famicom Draslefamily music and not a single thing that was used in the final game? (the FC version didn't get a soundtrack release as far as I know)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I would assume it's because Koshiro doesn't have the rights to any of the stuff he did for Falcom that made it into the final games. Even here he's very careful not to mention the names of the games they were rejected from, assuming that Falcom can't concretely prove anything about what projects they were supposedly for.

Can anyone tell me what the extra disk and data disks look like? What are they called on the disk?

I'm not sure how to handle this here. Should we include the Extra Disc in the normal tracklist? I'm asking since it was released afterwards. Also how about the indivudual identifiers? The core release uses B2PS-1010-1~8 for Disc 1~7 plus the Data Disc (B2PS-1010-8) as identifier. The Extra Disc has the same identifier (B2PS-1010-8) and the Live DVD uses B2PS-1010D. In case anyone cares for that (wasn't able to change it on the album page for whatever reasons).

Did the disc with BRAVERY SOUL ever get sent out? The info still refers to it in the future tense, but it's been years now.
I also noticed his work for Eye of the Beholder (PC-98) is absent from this box. It seems like it is one of the few projects that he lost altogether though, according to this tweet. Miracle Casino Paradise and Manji: PSY Yuuki are two other sequenced SNES/PC-98 OSTs also not present here, which are from 1995 so maybe they aren't "early enough". I also feel that there was a slight miscredit for Gage. 4.12 is credited to Koshiro for composition and not just programming, but 4.19 is an alternate version and is not credited to him. This is where I bring up 4.13 - which has an upbeat synthpop style typical of Koshiro and is very different from the classical remainder of the OST. So I feel that was most likely his instead of 4.12, though it would be worth checking with him to be sure. |

I'd also like to add that the tracks from GG Batman Returns present here in fact, appear to be Kawashima's compositions too, as he confirmed here. He is also the only one credited under sound, with Koshiro under Sound Management and Mikito Ichikawa under Sound Program, so this essentially mirrors what he said about writing all the tracks. It's most likely that Koshiro included them by mistake, and that his only involvement was helping Kawashima learn MML and managing the project. They sound more like Kawashima anyways, who seems to have tried to emulate Koshiro's style for much of his earlier work but something still feels different about it.

I assumed that was the eighth disc, checking the history it didn't seem to be there when the album was announced.

I still have some questions about this release. Was the DVD a pre-order bonus?
Also I just found out, there was an additional bonus disc which could be obtained on the live event held at Roppongi Claps on 2018-06-02. Should this be included here as well? Or should it make a separate entry? Here's some info on that disc: https://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/1125489.html Tracklist: original ver. 01 THE GREAT ROBBERY 02 時の流れるままに 03 EVIL GOD MARS ~邪神マーズ~ 04 Are you ready? 05 Variant7 06 発進(Has-shin) 07 tuning-up 08 Opening(Another) 09 Unfinished song 10 森林地帯 demo arrange ver. 11 THE GREAT ROBBERY~時の流れるままに(岡島俊治 demo arrange ver.) 12 EVIL GOD MARS ~邪神マーズ~(上倉紀行 demo arrange ver.) 13 Variant7(上倉紀行 demo arrange ver.) 14 発進(Has-shin)(上倉紀行 demo arrange ver.) 15 Missing you / 小寺可南子(岡島俊治 demo arrange ver.) 16 森林地帯(岡島俊治 demo arrange ver.) |

Retailer/event exclusive bonus discs usually tend to get separate pages, so I'd say make a separate entry. Would love to hear these!
