MAGES. (#773)
Not really have time to check all the scans, but even after 5pb.Inc was absorbed, Mages.Inc hasn't been seen on any scans, but plain "5pb.", so I'll remove this entry (perhaps replace by "5pb.").

The publisher from the FPBD stem seems pretty convoluted since it's not always clearly credited.
MAGES is now the parent company but it isn't really used? exs: FPBD-0081 5pb.Records (p) 2008 5pb.Inc. (c)2008 LASS (jun 2008) [publisher in obi: 5pb.] [logo: 5pb. Records] FPBD-0158 (c) 2010 5pb. Inc./CYBERFRONT (jul 2010) FPBD-0176 (c) WillPlus (c) 2003 FlyingShine (c) CYBERFRONT [no logo] [Produced by 5pb. Records] (mar 2011) FPBD-0177 (c) 2011 5pb. Inc. (apr 2011) FPBD-0178 (c) 2011 5pb. (jun 2011) FPBD-0201 (c) 2011 5pb. (sep 2011) FPBD-0222 (c) 2009-2012 5pb./Nitroplus (may 2012) FPBD-0263 (c) 2011 Team GrisGris / 5pb. --- (c) CYBERFRONT/5pb. (dec 2011) FPBD-0267 (c) 5pb. Games 2011-2013 MAGES./5pb. (sep 2013) FPBD-0284 (c) 5pb. Games 2011-2014 MAGES./5pb. (mar 2014) ??? (c) 2011 Team GrisGris / MAGES./5pb. (jul 2014) FVCG-1307 5pb. Records (c) 2014 5pb. YZPB-5017 5pb. Records (c) 2013 5pb. FPBD usually uses the logo of "5pb. Games" (+ devs + publishers too). FVCG/YZPB while use "5pb. Records" instead. So perhaps the logo is the actual imprint regardless of the parent company. Since many FPBD are enclosures = 5pb.Games imprint. Some FPBD go with the 5pb. Records logo = 5pb. Records imprint. Or maybe just have all linked to 5pb. Records to simplify, it isn't very consistent anyway. (to be rechecked) |

that won't be wrong to link those FPBD catalogues to 5pb (in the range of its existence)
and to MAGES for the rest Last edited by Phonograph; Aug 20, 2014 at 09:25 AM. |

Let's see if we can make some sense. First, basically the orgs we have currently are correct. To recap:
Companies: 5pb. (+ AG-ONE) > MAGES. (2005/04~2011/06/01~present) Imprints, called "brands" in their sites (2005/05~2007/11/30~present) - Game business: Five Games Kid / 5gk. > 5pb.Games - Music business: Five Records > 5pb.Records Now the tricky part: records and games by 5pb.Games/Records, just list "5pb." as the publisher (sometimes developer) even now. > Games: ex, ex > Records: FVCG, FPBD, YZPB This all makes me think that: - "5pb." (legal EN: "5pb. Inc.", legal JP "株式会社5pb.") is the actual, current legal entity that owns the copyrights and wasn't actually terminated in 2011/06 [but I can't find evidence for it]. - OR "5pb." is now the umbrella label, and is the one officially credited. - MAGES. (legal EN: "MAGES. Inc.", legal JP "株式会社MAGES.") was created from 5pb. + AG-ONE staff, and is the one that actually operates [usually not credited as (c)MAGES., not rightholder?] - 5pb.Records/Games are internal labels, not actual entities. - "5pb." and "5pb. Inc." are exactly the same thing (one is the regular name and other the English entity name) - The logos/copyrights in the CDs (see my list above) ultimately refer to just "5pb." (5pb. Inc.). - The cat# stem don't really tell how to link (ie. all cat#s are technically just 5pb.) So how to handle enclosures and/or albums not officially by 5pb.Records? 1. Remove Inc. from "5pb. Inc" [as per guidelines and since it's only the legal name] 2a. Create a "5pb.Games" imprint, link enclosures to it (so relink all from 5pb. and MAGES.) [less accurate but more consistent with 5pb.Records. albums] 2b. Link enclosures to "5pb." for albums <2011/06 and MAGES. for albums >2011/06/01 [not really accurate since MAGES. is not usually credited] 2c. Create a "5pb." (from 2011/06) parent label for "5pb.Records", link enclosures there [possibly more accurate but harder to understand] 2d. Remove "until" date in "5pb.", link enclosures to "5pb." [if there is evidence 5pb. company still exists] I'm inclined to go with 2b for the time being (easier to mutate the entry later). Thanks for the research Dag. The article you linked at the end looks interesting, let us know if there's some useful information in it.
About the enclosures, even if we go with 2b I think it would make sense to create the 5pb.Games label and link it as "Imprint" along with 5pb/MAGES, since we have the Records label. I would actually prefer 2a, since we don't usually link the manufacturer in most entries (like we never linked 5pb. company for 5pb.Records entries or King Record company for Starchild Records entries), it would be more consistent to just make a 5pb.Games label and link that. Anyway for the time being I linked the entries with the 5pb.Games logo to the companies so we don't forget about them, though there are some I'm not sure about/I've left unlinked: Spoiler:
These are mostly for the FPBD catalog, while the FVGK catalog always has the 5pb.Games logo. Since I fixed the distributors for the normal 5pb entries, here are some of the more straightforward catalogs with the respective distributor, in case anyone is confused when making a new entry: FVCG: 5pb. Records (distributed by Media Factory) VGCD/VGDV: 5pb. Records (distributed by Geneon Entertainment) or Geneon Universal Entertainment depending on the date YZPB: 5pb. Records (distributed by CROWN TOKUMA music distribution) or Stand-Up! Records (distributed by CROWN TOKUMA music distribution) USSW: 5pb. Records FVGK: 5pb. Games There are also some 5pb releases mixed in other companies catalogs, like ZMCZ-38xx, ZMCZ-39xx, some PCCG-900xx, PCCR-900xx, AVCA-49xxx, SVWC-78xx and so on, that are by 5pb. Records and distributed by the respective companies according to the catalog. Last edited by Illidan; Nov 3, 2014 at 09:35 PM. |

Thinking it a bit more I guess the sanest approach would be 2a.
If albums released by their records division are linked to "5pb. Records", makes sense albums enclosed with games released by the games division would be linked to "5pb. Games". I hesitate a bit since it's not so clear with in the packages themselves, but if we can agree on that standard that's perfect for me. |

Went ahead and made the entry. In case we change our mind, we can always rename the new one to "5pb." which is still more correct than having the entries linked like before.
The 3 entries left in 5pb. are the only ones with the plain "5pb." logo instead of the 5pb. Games one, so I've left them linked to the company. There are still some I couldn't verify (see the spoiler in this post) so in case anyone owns them/can find a scan where you can read the text under the logo, let me know. According to scans on USSW-0026
http://vgmdb.net/db/covers.php?do=view&cover=277784 発売元: 5pb. 販売元: 株式会社MAGES. So I linked all 2016+ USSW releases to MAGES. as distributor. |

Last week MAGES. announced that they will be consolidating the 5pb. branding/label into MAGES. https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/00...000046985.html
On Tower USSW-0206 is listed as レーベル 5pb. https://tower.jp/item/4941032/HEART-TOUCH<通常盤> USSW-0207 is listed as レーベル MAGES. https://tower.jp/item/4944710/Shake-Up!-[CD+Blu-ray-Disc]<初回限定盤> I created a label page for MAGES. here: https://vgmdb.net/org/1944 (similar to King/Lantis) |

Looks like the change is already in effect as of USSW-0205/6. The new imprint is a single "M" as seen on the obi and disc here: https://static.mercdn.net/item/detai...jpg?1570372574
I've marked 5pb. Records as succeeded by the MAGES. imprint: https://vgmdb.net/org/26 Edit: It doesn't look like there will be a Games/Records imprint like with 5pb., so I marked the MAGES. imprint as the successor of 5pb. Games as well. Last edited by nstz; Oct 6, 2019 at 12:32 PM. |

The first game release since the change is now out.
As with music 5pb. no longer appears on the release. https://static.mercdn.net/item/detai...53627687_2.jpg https://static.mercdn.net/item/detai...80817105_2.jpg https://static.mercdn.net/item/detai...11073954_1.jpg https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....C_SL15000_.jpg It seems that they are using "MAGES." in full on game releases though, rather than the single "M" that appears on music releases. I added a note to this effect on the page: https://vgmdb.net/org/1944 |
