That's really beautiful. Thanks for the heads up.

When will Mitsuda score a full-length RPG again? It seems the closest thing we'll have is Edge of Eternity... but I'd really rather Mitsuda go back to nonorchestral, more folk-influenced music. It's always been his strength.

Same, but the industry has changed and wants more film like soundtracks (like what he did for Soul Sacrifice)

Mitsuda and Millennial Fair are performing Brink of Time live in July. You can still get tickets!
http://www.procyon-studio.com/20th_special/

Also, I'm going to go ahead and link to a trailer I made for Xenoblade X. It's an amateurish patchwork of unrelated videos (all released prior to the Japanese release, so no spoilers), but it uses the theme Mitsuda wrote for Terra Battle.

Why, oh why, Takahashi. You could have had this for your main theme!

Now if we could only get a recording of something of that event. *dream*

Woah, I have to say that I really like this. As you say it's a bit rough around the edges but if flows really well. Good work

Mitsuda apparently did the soundtrack for Stella Glow.
Quote:
Famous Japanese voice actors sing more than 20 songs in the game. Plus, the soundtrack is composed by Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenogears). The songs are part of Song Magic – a vital combat and story element. Players can even choose to “tune” the Witches’ hearts to increase their abilities.

I don't know if this means the soundtrack by Mitsuda is separate from the songs, or if Mitsuda did the songs and that comprises the soundtrack.

It's both Mitsuda and Shunsuke Tsuchiya. Obviously the breakdown from each composer isn't known. As for the songs, I imagine they were probably behind them as well, but not entirely certain.

Looks like Shop 2083 has some items from THE BRINK OF TIME available. The pamphlet would be certainly interesting.

It also has quite a great interview with Mitsuda for the 20th anniversary of his composing career:
http://www.2083.jp/contents/201508yasunori_mitsuda/
Enjoyed the rather extensive part about his year at Wolfteam as a sound assistant to Sakuraba. The part about sound creation for SoM, FF5, RS2 and Hanjuku Hero is also interesting. ^^

Very interesting. Sakuraba 1 song per hour, oh boy.

"Asunaro Boys" in Moon are Mitsuda + Uematsu btw, with the "catcordeon" pictured in mthe interview.

Following up on my Stella Glow post from earlier, Mitsuda was obviously assisted. The preview music track sounds like Tsuchiya. Like other Procyon Studio works for the same developer, I wonder if additional composers were contracted (Harada for Arc Rise Fantasia, Mitome for Sands of Deestruction, Kaida et al. for Luminous Arc, etc.)

AFAIK, Tsuchiya was the only other guy credited before the game's release. However, I have not seen the credits yet, so there could be others.

Valkyria: Azure Revolution theme song(s).
http://gematsu.com/2016/01/valkyria-...g-demo-details

The vocal theme in the beginning really reminded me of Sakimoto, but I was wrong. I wonder if Mitsuda is also doing the BGM? Someone in the comments section seems to believe so. If so, I would have mixed feelings.

First, an all Mitsuda-score would be great, but I can't help but think there will be a healthy portion of Tsuchiya too.

Second, as much as I love Mitsuda and nearly everything he does, orchestral music is not and has never been his strength. He's hit gold a few times--for example, his Terra Battle theme, which is absolutely perfect and one of my favorite themes he's ever written. But the orchestral theme for this game? Totally unsurprising and cliche.

On the other hand, though you might argue (with reasonable accuracy) that Sakimoto's orchestral stuff has sounded samey since Stella Deus, he's better at it than Mitsuda (you could flip the argument and say Mitsuda's orchestral stuff has sounded samey since Xenosaga Ep.1).

At the very least, I will say this: either of them is an excellent composer with a pedigree of the highest quality. Recently a lot of good game designers have been making terrible, terrible choices when selecting composers. So good on the Valkyria team for not lowering the bar (if in fact Mitsuda is doing all the BGM). I wouldn't mind Mitsuda on the theme songs and Sakimoto on the BGM myself.

The news sources and Twitter indicates that he is in charge of the music for the game, not just the main theme and theme songs.

I'd still expect other members of Procyon Studio to be involved.

His most recent works have been solo. After all, the only other composer left at Procyon is Tsuchiya.

Unsurprisingly, Mitsuda will handle the music for the upcoming anime Inazuma Eleven Ares.

Yeah, but no Kameoka this time. Not surprising considering she no longer works at Procyon. It's still a bit disappointing though.

Interestingly, JASRAC has a bunch of BGM tracks from Stella Glow registered with composers: 6 for Mitsuda and 32 for Tsuchiya.

These are just raw song titles that are evidently not present in the game itself, so good luck figuring out what songs they apply to:
Mitsuda
STELLA GLOW

Tsuchiya
RESULT
LET'S GO SHOPPING!
FIELD IT CONFUSES
DISQUIETING THE SIGN
STRATEGY MEETING
MIND CONDUCT

No guarantee that what's on JASRAC is a complete list.

Interesting, not like JASRAC would create titles out of nowhere right? This probably points to a future OST release, but maybe I'm wrong.

JASRAC's info is submitted by the rightsholders, so the titles aren't just made up, yeah.

It's rare, but I've seen other games without soundtracks that just randomly have JASRAC entries for no obvious reason (Sega Strike Fighter is one that always comes to mind). In this case, rather than pointing toward a future soundtrack release, I think it might just indicate that Mitsuda is fairly proactive in making sure copyright registration for all his compositions is sorted out, being that he has this page on his site and all.

More things from JASRAC while I'm evidently bored:

城下町
勝利の雄叫び

Radical Dreamers song titles:
Most of the song entries here have multiple titles attached to them, which appear to variously be translations, subtitles, and in one case even whole song variations grouped into the same entry. The first title in each cluser is the "main" title for that entry in JASRAC.

In addition to composing for Xenoblade 2, Mitsuda did his own orchestration for at least one of his XB2 contributions. This screen shows an actual cap of sheet music.

Xenoblade II - Main Theme Part 2 -

Composed by Yasunori MITSUDA
Orchestrated by Yasunori MITSUDA
It's the theme we hear in the second part of the trailer. I am so ready for this game.
