however, the whole info is capitalized (like MANUFACTURED BY etc...) like NIPPON COLUMBIA (said in another thread) cf. LP/EP/CD covers of that "Nippon Columbia" timeline both bmg and columbia's second entries should merge with previous |

The important part there is "no alternate katakana representation".
It was known as 株式会社ビーエムジージャパン before, after the merger and name change it became 株式会社BMG JAPAN. The transcription is the same but they are different legal entities. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMG_JAPAN Note: I've fixed up the entries that were wrongly linked to the old BMG Japan. |

on covers there was always been BMG JAPAN, INC. written
株式会社BMGジャパン has just been replaced by 株式会社BMG JAPAN but not in the MANUFACTURED BY etc... section and I don't know about that 株式会社ビーエムジージャパン written like that |

According to the Wiki article 株式会社ビーエムジージャパン is what's written in official documents.
Like I said, the english name is the same, but legally they're different entities. And they're still different in the timeline. Logically you can't have X --> succeeded by Y --> succeeded by X The final company happens to have the same name, but since it came about due to Y changing its name, it's not the same as X. |

One solution to the linking problem might be to filter out any orgs where the release year falls outside of their start and end years, +/- a year.

because if you watch the columbia history page on their official page the jap and eng names of nippon columbia are the same before and after instead of "succeeded by X", you should use a different way of phrasing it because X can succeed to Y it's more like "X became Y but returned to X" |

We do also create new entries if a company changes its name. Your method would be correct if Nippon Columbia continued to exist alongside Columbia Music Entertainment (like a parent company). However it changed names twice -- first to CME then back to NC. So during the CME phase there was no NC.
In fact NC, CME and the new NC are all the same entity, just with different names. We just don't have an alias feature for organizations yet. I know where you're coming from though -- splitting up all the organization pages like that can make things a bit fragmented. I wonder if there's a demand for a "parent" view so all the different name changes, merges and acquisitions are combined into one single page. |

actually, I'm not sure what I want to say
maybe I'd want a certain hierarchization of labels, like something more visible where, for example, you'd see 1. (date) label x 2. (date) label y --- a. (date) sublabel y1 --- b. (date) sublabel y2 3. (date) label z (or x) in a sort of chronological order and its ramifications if it has sublabels/imprints and not in that current "succeeded" thing where some labels doesn't appear unless to click a link that lead to a page with a label you couldn't see before clicking (is it clear enough, I wonder?) |
