Psst... wrong platform. It's for Nintendo Switch, not 3DS.

In any case, this should be pretty good. When the remake was announced, Takashi Tokita said the music was recorded with an orchestra and (probably rock) band. He also said Shimomura supervised the arrangements.

Looking forward to this. Might be even a candidate for best game soundtrack this year, at least for me.

From what I've heard in the trailers, the music sounds great. With Shimomura on board, it surely will stick close to the original. If it turns out like Legend of Mana, only with live instruments, then it would be an amazing experience.

I wonder who the arrangers will be ... any news yet?

So far I really love what I am hearing of this soundtrack! While I was only introduced to the original soundtrack for Live A Live for my birthday, this one is just a higher-powered arrangement of the original, true to the original compositions while offering upgraded instruments. This is kinda like the recent Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters and the Trials of Mana Remake. All three (seven?) turned out successfully well. Now it looks like Live A Live can be added to the list.

Sometimes there's no need to reinvent the wheel in terms of game design or music arrangements. I'm glad Yoko Shimomura is one of those people who is aware of this and remains faithful to her original creations. FF Pixel Remasters did a splendid job, too. The music always has to fit its environment. Don't forget the recent Legend of Mana Remake, which has also wonderful new arrangements, which stay close to their original form while adding a new level of quality. Especially live instruments add so much to it here.

I am really pleased with this release. There are only two tracks so far I definitively prefer the originals of (Kiss of Jealousy, Captain of the Stars).

Between this, Legend of Mana, Front Mission 1st & to a lesser extent, the Kingdom Hearts remasters - Shimomura's back catalog from Square has gotten a really loving fresher coat of paint. I hope she knows how much fans and other artists/arrangers treasure her work.

(Also really hoping the upcoming Front Mission 1st project does as great a job as these past few projects have on her work)

PS: Kameoka's Drammatica arrangement of "Unto the Birds..." making it onto this release in the track's original key made my heart swell.

I know she's not credited as a separate arranger in the booklet (pg. 17-18), but Shimomura is credited as self-arranger for 1-17 "Captain Square."

I haven't had the chance to compare ... is it credited this way because it's the exact same as the Super Famicom track, or did Shimomura actually do something with this one?

It's exactly the same on the new soundtrack as it is on the old one, not a new arrangement.

Unlike Legend of Mana where I'm beholden to the original version of the score because of nostalgia, I have to say I like this new rendition more. However, I never experienced the original game in its prime, so....

Also, I think the game is phenomenal. Seriously, I love that it's dripping with a dose of that old-school charm. It's not perfect but easily my favorite game this year so far. I love how each scenario is essentially built upon clichés/tropes (oh, I totally see through you Sci-fi scenario! haha!) but they manage to stir the pot just enough to add a twist and make it memorable.

SquareEnix, can you do Rudra no Hihou next? I'd love to see that!

Finished the game. I think the last chapter drags the game down a slight tad (not the very last stretch with the final boss, but the section before) but still a great time!

There's just one thing I have to mention about the music during this part. Why...

Spoiler:
…did they just have to use the title theme as the battle theme in this chapter? I honestly don't think the title theme is bad but to hear it THAT much during the final chapter, I started to get annoyed with it.

I am very happy that they used the original Captain Square in the remake, it fits where it plays very well. I kind of wish the intro was a separate track however....

As for Kiss Of Jealousy, I am amazed (not trying to sound glib here) that I see the original being better than the remake opinion everywhere I go. I'm not going to fight against that, but it makes me wonder: why does the remake of Kiss Of Jealousy at the center of such a comparison when Heroic Struggle kind of does the same thing? I was so confused by Heroic Struggle when I first heard it, but then I got to that chapter in the game and it just suddenly clicked for me and became my favorite battle theme in the game. I liked Kiss Of Jealousy but I love Heroic Struggle. Is this because Kiss is the more iconic tune in the original game?

For me, "Kiss of Jealousy" is just a bit limper in the remake. There's that amazing melody in the second part of the track and it sounds buried in the new arrangement. I don't think it's a bad arrangement, but it definitely doesn't focus on the punchy sound of the original I love.

I think that's probably the best possible outcome with new arrangements - if it's not better than the original, at least it's trying something different.

Does anyone happen to have an undamaged mega jacket that you'd be willing to sell? If so, please PM me.
