Does the production quality suffer on this release compared the the original release? Like how the Legend of Zelda OoT 3D ost sounds worse than the original release?

The answer is yes and no. The sound samples are less true to the originals than Ocarina of Time 3D. The brass is rather ugly compared to the brass used on the original Star Fox 64, which is one of its characteristic sounds. That certain peculiarity of sound, that noise in some instruments, that held OoT 3D back is present here. The drums also aren't always as big and boomy as the original. I'd say the 3D version is mixed better though and that's probably the saving grace, having a more open stereo field. It also has a clearer sound quality than the original CD, which has a sort of harsh sound compared to the in-game audio. Switching back and forth between the same pieces from the two CDs can sound favorable to the 3D version just because it's clearer, even though I don't like the samples as much.

They're different enough for it to be subjective which you prefer. If I didn't have a preconceived notion of what the instruments should sound like, I might say I like 3D better. Just don't judge from listening on YouTube; I was looking for a link to "Corneria" as an example but every one of the four uploads sounds like something got screwed up.

Can anybody confirm if Satomi Terui was another part-time composer for Nintendo like Takeshi Hama was? They both did work for Nintendo in 2011 only, and AFAIK Terui hasn't been credited since.

Tracks 31-36 and 42 are credited Satomi Terui in the Notes section. Are those tracks new music for Star Fox 64 3D, meaning that they didn't exist in the N64 game? If yes, I'm really intrigued to listen to them.

Tracks 31 to 35 are from the battle mode (which was completely revamped from the Nintendo 64 version) so they are brand-new; however, track 36 is actually the "Venom Demo" from the original N64 soundtrack, so the composition for that one should be corrected to Hajime Wakai. Also, track 42, while used on the new credits section for the 3DS staff, is a piano medley of "Opening", "Mission Accomplished" and some portions of "Staff Credits 1" so the composition should technically be credited to Koji Kondo.

It's also worth mentioning that, unlike other Nintendo 3DS remakes, the soundtrack as a whole was completely rearranged, so all tracks sound noticeably different when comparing to their Nintendo 64 iterations.

Thanks for the info, RBM95. I listened to the Satomi Terui tracks on youtube, and I loved track 32 ("Battle"). Perhaps I'll get the album. Haven't listened to the N64 music in a long time, so this might be a good time to listen to these new rearrangements.
