Ramza on RPGFan lists that Hayato Matsuo is an Arranger for this album, would that be programming/porting?
(As Sugiyama would be quite capable of arranging his own compositions...) I added full scans, the staff info is on booklet 6, if any comfirmation is shown there |

Yes, programming/porting.
http://chudahs-corner.com/soundtrack...alog=KTCR-1363 The synthesizer version tracks from the Kitty Records disc were, I believe, used on the box set. And even if they weren't, the DS version of Shiren the Wanderer also listed Matsuo for "synth arrangement" IIRC (I beat that game, saw it in end credits). I'm pretty sure Matsuo does the down-sampling/synth work for all of Sugiyama's "Shiren the Wanderer" games. Ramza |

Also, looking again, Booklet 6 actually lists Matsuo as a COMPOSER. No arrangers specifically are listed. But compare the Kanji just under composer (Sugiyama Koichi is in Hiragana first, and then...)
http://vgmdb.net/artist/296 Yeah, Matsuo composed too. And I'm wrong about the Kitty Records disc having anything ported onto this set. The booklet clearly says it comes from N64, Dreamcast, and Game Boy versions. No SNES version to speak of. But I think the N64 tracks match with some of the SNES tracks. I'm going to list Matsuo and Sugiyama as co-composers and co-arrangers on my review now. |

I updated this a while ago based on game credits. Never explicitly stated, but pretty sure Matsuo was the only musician to actually work on the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Dreamcast, DS, and possibly Wii games. However, he also arranged a lot of reprises of Matsuo's work.

I couldn't find anything in the scans we have that says which tracks on the third disc come from which GB game. So, how was it determined that the first 14 tracks are from the first game, and the rest are from the sequel? From the games themselves?
I'm asking because I'm pretty sure that split point is off by one, and track 3.14 is also from the second game. It's an opening theme, so it would be weird (although not unheard of) for it to be the last track in that group. Plus, the subtitle, 魔城, matches part of the subtitle of the second game, 砂漠の魔城. |

I was curious about the repetition in title between tracks 27 and 28 on disc 2, and there in the image Booklet 4 you can see that 28 does have a different name. Curious mistake since the Japanese and English tracklists both have the same problem. Could someone put in the actual name and the translation for 28?

For anyone confused by all the parenthetical parts of the track titles, what's going on there is that music from the first Shiren game is reused in other ones. Whoever named these tracks listened to the Shiren the Wanderer Special Arrange album and titled them according to that, then included in parentheses the name of where they play in the corresponding game here. So the tune "In a World above the Clouds" from the first game plays in Hizume Wharf in the N64 one, hence the track title on this album.
However, sometimes it's done rather carelessly, like "Cave of Trials (Snow Mountain)"; the melody is the same, yes, but this is not the music that plays in the Cave of Trials in the first Shiren, it plays in a place called Cryptic Rock Valley in the English localization of the DS port. More egregious are all the "Town of Rest" tracks. The only one that is actually the music from the so-called "Town of Rest" (it's actually named Mountaintop Town) from the first game is "Sasumi's Theme". The menu screen music and some other things use the same melody, so they all are titled "Town of Rest" here even though that name isn't an appropriate descriptor at all. |
