Water Continent Maharl from Bahamut Lagoon and Leftherian Archipelago from Xenoblade 2 begin with almost the same chord progression. What's interesting is that both games take place on land masses/islands floating in the sly/cloudsea, and both Maharl and Leftheria are water-themed (the latter due to its jellyfish-like titans and their many aquatic features).

I've heard this rhythmic figure used in other Japanese-themed media, too. Is must be derived from a popular TV show or event or something?
And again in the Tottemo SNES RPG. Another staff roll...

That specific pattern may be derived from the Hanagasa Ondo, but maybe it was extant before that (this is way outside my area of expertise lmao)

That's exactly it! Thanks. I learned something about Japanese folk music. The Hanagasa Ondo video put it into perfect context.

Anime, but Yoko Kanno-related. Her "Ephemera" from Brain Powerd OST 1 seems to borrow a voice sample from Perez Prado's "The Voodoo Suite", much like the Lou Bega worldwide pop hit "Mambo No.5" (which Kanno would later remix for a commercial advert, included in her second CM compilation).

Nakamura's Spring Yard Demo bears an uncanny resemblance to Paula Abdul's Straight Up.

I suppose you could say Heroes from The Legend of Heroes III is "similar" to the Pet Shop Boys' Being Boring.

So similar, in fact, that it, and it alone, was replaced by a new song in a rerelease of the game, replaced by a different new song in the Windows port, and excluded from digital releases of the soundtrack.

I noticed "Another Warm Body" from Silent Hill: Shattered Memories actually contains the same piano line as "Secure Place" from Resident Evil 2. Well, except for the last note from Secure Place.

A song from Guardian Heroes called Fighters of Pain, at least to me, sounds very similar to Shinobi III's Idaten in parts.

Ys IV - Walking the Path of Legend

The synth line in the background is slightly reminiscent of the Act 1 boss theme in Sonic & Knuckles.

So we've got a trio here...
First is from FFXII, "Abandoning Power":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZPJGDoKYkw

Tnen we've got Satorl Marsh (Night) from Xenoblade:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA7pFI4pEv0

And finally A Hat in Time - Clocktowers Beneath the Sea:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NICSuX25KQY

Crazy thing is I feel there's yet another one out there that sounds like that and I can't figure out what.

Not sure if it's what you were thinking of, but the first thing that came to mind when I listened to those 3 tracks was how similar they were to the opening of Ryuichi Sakamoto's Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence theme

Killer Instinct - Yo Check This Out!
Tricky Sliders - Let's Get Together

Has a very similar vibe imo.

Greetings,

I'm starting a blog about this topic with some of my very own findings.

Hope to see you soon!

The following similarities are very well-known, but I haven't seen them posted in this topic, so there they go:

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 - Credits
Michael Jackson - Stranger In Moscow

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 - Ice Cap Zone Act 1
The Jetzons - Hard Times

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Ending
Dreams Come True - Sweet Dream

Actually, the chord progressions are identical in all the cases (and even the whole melody in some of them), so we could even say that they are cover/remixes.

Here is a couple from two different Pokémon games having similar chord progressions:

Pokémon GSC - End Credits + The End
Pokémon Pinball - Name Entry

I find both of them really outstanding.

Wonder why noone posted that one before but DQ II's "My Road My Journey" is clearly a hommage to Frank Sinatra's "My Way". Even the name gives it away already

Didn't noticed those before but:

Iridion 2 - Megalunania (intro part of the track)
vs
Exchange - Into the night (some parts of the intro)

Iridion 2 - Clearing A Stage
vs
Wave Race 64 - Main Title
Not super close eh, but maybe the inspiration.

I bet Masayoshi Soken's "A Fine Death" (ARR OST) was influenced by Masashi Hamauzu's Dirge of Cerberus trailer theme.

A Fine Death
https://youtu.be/nSSPqzuT_rI?list=PL...rz3E5DPlQ&t=87

DoC trailer
https://youtu.be/TfQfOxq9fK8?t=92

The specific trailer BGM was never released on disc. But the theme appears elsewhere on the DoC OST.

Solo fortissimo horn thing, followed by the same chords, both in triple meter.

Here's a similarity I finally figured out after 6 years.....

Growlanser III: The Dual Darkness - Risky Mission
Lollipop Chainsaw - Phone Call 4

The chord progression in the beginning is just uncannily alike. To my ears anyway.

Very nice topic.

I've noticed one of the sound effects used in Kurtis Blow - AJ Scratch is similar to the ones used in two Night Slashers tracks, but I don't know if it comes from a well known sound effects library :

Kurtis Blow - AJ Scratch (the sound effect appears at 0:59, at 1:43 and throughout).

Both tracks from Night Slashers where the same sound effect appears :
Night Slashers - Azteca
Night Slashers - Dead Wind
